Next thing you know, you're eatin' hospital food...

So in the middle of the week, Grandma Polt called Mama Polt in the morning and told her that she was having trouble breathing.  Mom went and got her and took her to the hospital.  They got her on oxygen and she was breathing better.  They did tests on her and said they'd keep her overnight.

The next day, they diagnosed her with Congestive Heart Failure.  I always thought that was an end-of-life thing.  Like once you get that, you're on your way out the door and into the grave.  I asked one of the nurses at work about it, and she said, "Oh no, I had an aunt who lived 4 years with Congestive Heart Failure."  She said as long as grandma takes the meds prescribed and follows the instructions she could live on for some time.

They kept her overnight again, but released her on Saturday morning.  She called mom at 10:00 to come pick her up.  Mom, however, was out shopping, so she didn't get the message until after 11, when she did go and get her.  But while grandma sat in her room and waited, she said the doctor stopped by twice to see how she was doing.  And grandma was saying to herself, "oh, you better get here soon, before he changes his mind and doesn't want to release me!"  Which of course didn't happen.

But Grandma Polt is home now.  She even went to church this morning. At 88 years old she's no spring chicken, but she's still kicking.

See if you can get her on something called EECP therapy, it's non-invasive and could help her alot.

Glad she is feeling better. My Grandpa had that for years as well. It didn't help that he had emphysema which made it worse. Every now and then he'd have to go in the hospital and get it taken care of when he'd have issues, but as they said, with meds it can be managed quite well. Hope she continues to do well.

Glad to hear Grandma Polt is home and hopefully doing well. CHF can be an end of life thing, but as you already know, it can be managed. Summer can be tough, especially if it is very hot and very humid. I'll keep her in my thoughts.
