So I finally just gave up on "Revolutionaries". I started the book back on March 18th. It was a good book, VERY in depth, well researched and well written. But it was also dry. And long. And very VERY in depth. I really struggled to get as far through it as I did. And this afternoon, while slogging through it, I just finally gave up.
It was about the men involved in the American Revolution: Washington Jefferson, Adams (both John and Samuel), John Jay, etc, etc, etc. I love history and I liked reading the book, but this particular book just dragged on and on and on..and i just couldn't do it anymore. Its unfortunate, because I think I would have enjoyed it had I finished it. And after spending a month reading it and not being able to finish it...well, I dont like that either. But whatever.
I've moved on. To a DC Comics book. Shouldn't have too much trouble with Superman & Batman's first meeting.

I've got books filling my shelves day and night...
So, Monday I had my doctor's appointment. Good news: HIV negative again this year. Bad news: A1C rose from 7.9 to 8.4. Just about as bad as I expected it to. And since it had been two years, she had them do an EKG, and everything was fine there too. Blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides...everything was acceptable. Just the damn blood sugar. Well, need to work on that, obviously.
After this, my buddy from work, Ryan and his friend (who I've known as well for a few years) Dan, went to Frederick MD to eat, once again, at akaFriscos. Yeah yeah, I know, have a large sub (and chili) just hours after being told my doctor to watch my carb and sugar intake is rather...counterproductive. But it was akaFriscos, for God's sake!!! Surely their deliciousness surely is an exception!
Then we visited Beyond Comics there where I spend way too much money on graphic novels. And then to Barnes & Noble, where I spent more money on books and other things. Other things like THIS:
Yes it IS in fact a collection of all eleven Doctors in miniature! In a TARDIS shaped box! Something I didn't need, at a price I shouldn't have spent....but what the hell, are you my accountant? I wanted them I got them. So there.
So I'll update my Books Of The Year List...but wont include the graphic novels...cause they're not book-books, they're....graphic novels.
The yearly totals so far are:
Jan 27: 4 books for $49.71, average $12.43 per book.
Jan 30: 4 books for $13.14, average $3.29 per book.
Total: 8 books for $62.85, average $7.86 per book.
Feb 10: 9 books for $119.25, average $13.25 per book.
Total: 17 books for $182.10, average $10.71 per book
Mar 03: 2 books for $26.78, avearge $13.39 per book
Total: 19 books for $208.88, average $10.99 per book
Mar 17: 3 books for $9.97, average $3.32 per book
Total: 22 books for $218.85, average $9.95 per book.
April 9: 4 books for $28.55, average $7.14 per book
Total: 26 books for $247.40, average $9.52 per book.
April 15: 2 books for $35.97, average $17.99 per book.

Got exactly what I asked for, wanted it so badly (Part 1)...
I'm starting a new feature here called, "Ask Polt!"
Basically, as it says, what happens is you guys email me a question, I answer it, and post both question and answer on The Palace here in infrequent intervals.
I'm a bit hesitant to do this because this could end up being a bad thing, for one of two reasons. Either 1) no one will send any questions in, thus causing the resulting embarrassment, or 2) you WILL send in questions. And knowing some of you like I do, this is perhaps the scariest option.
I promise to answer all questions sent to me, although I make no promises to not respond to them with snarky, sarcastic, and/or stupid responses.
So if there's anything you might ever have wanted to ask me, or just some question you've always wanted answered, do it now. Send your questions to poltguy@yahoo.com. And your name will have to accompany the question, I'm not gonna answer anonymous questions. (although nicknames and such are welcome)
So, here we go.....

IF you were, and you are, you're a jellicle cat....
So last night, I went with my buddy Michelle and co-worker Ann to see "Cats" at a local high school. And all I have to say about it is....
What in the HELL did I just spend three hours watching????
Let me first say, the production was amazing. The set was gorgeous, the costumes and make-up were unbelievably incredible, the singing and dancing were, by and large, first rate. For a local high school production, it was very professional.
My problem is with the play itself. What in the hell IS it? Let me see if I remember it correctly: there's singing and dancing and introduction of a specific cat. Then more singing, and dancing, and introductions. Oh and then there's some singing. And dancing. And let's not forget an introduction of some character. And then some old lady cat dies and goes to cat heaven. The end.
What the FUCK?
It would have been nice for there to have been a plot or something, ya know?
Seriously, whoever wrote this thing was obviously doing some pretty serious drugs at the time. Shit happens for no reason. Somehow the king cat is kidnapped only to "magically' just reappear later...no explanation as to WHY he was taken or HOW he returned. The old actor cat with palsy sits and laments his situation, only to have some strange, cloaked figure (a vampire? The Grim Reaper? McCavity in disguise?) come onstage, move around him, and then leave....for no apparent reason whatsoever. And somehow, they form a LOCOMOTIVE?????
This was without a doubt, THE stupidest play I have ever seen in my life. I say this taking NOTHING away from the kids, the musicians, the directors, cheorographers, or anyone else involved in the production I saw. But I truly do not understand how "Cats" was on Broadway for so long. I'm truly glad I only paid $10 and not $100 for some professional production of this batch of tripe. I don't think asking for...ya know, a PLOTLINE or two in a play! Mom saw it in NYC and she said she loved it and would definitely see it again. !!!
I should have KNOWN better than to go see a play called "Cats"...it's just like all felines: a Spawn of Satan!
I guess I'll just have to chalk this up as yet ANOTHER thing that most people enjoy that I just can't comprehend anyone liking. Like fireworks, Valentine's Day, Middle Class people noting Republican, Katy Perry, and poutine.
The best part of the night? Well after the play, the three of us went to The Waffle House (as has become our tradition) and that was fun (and tasty) as always. But better still was, when I went to pick up Michelle, her stepson Jeremy was throwing a party there, and when I brought her home, she and I had a glass of wine and talked to a few of the cute young 20-somethings that were still there.
He approached me as we were getting ready to into the car, like this, and when I suggested a picture, he readily agreed. I mean, who wouldn't?
Yeah, that photo...THAT was the highlight of the night.

A few of the strings of empty beer cans tied together with duct tape
