So I survived Hurricane Sandy just fine.  Oh there was some wind, there was a lot of rain, but none of it in downbursts that might have flooded the basement.  And the power never went out, even though the lights did flicker ever so slightly about three times.

So what did I learn from Hurricane Sandy?

1) It's good to prepare way ahead of time so that you don't have to stand in line or hunt for a parking space.
2) One can do all kinds of things one never thought one could in times of emergency...like watching 11 straight hours of The Weather Channel.
3) If one wants to put a storm window in the door and remove the screen, it's best NOT to do it in the midst of a hurricane when the winds are blowing so hard it blows the storm window back in on you more than one, smacking you in the side of the head pretty hard one time.
4) When one schedules the guys to come put the new storm doors on, it's best not to do it on the day a hurricane it due to arrive.  (see #3 above).
5) When in your house alone, with a hurricane approaching, and you're just a smidge scared, it can help to stay on Twitter and bore and irritate your friend with nearly constant updates of how you're doing.

Just some advice for anyone who gets caught in an impending hurricane.

I've been out in, driven though and stayed at home for all sorts of storms. Living in the city has one advantage, we don't get as much extreme damage as the suburbs tend to get.

And the idiots who built on the coastline - they got what they deserve.

Glad you came through it okay.

Don't forget 6) Make sure you invite a cute guy to stay over to keep you warm and cozy : ).
