Gilbert Baker

Mr. Baker was born in 1951.  He was living in San Francisco in the early 70's and became involved in the gay rights movement.  He taught himself to sew and was hired at the local Paramount Flag Company.  He became friends with Harvey Milk.  In 1978, he was asked to design a flag that could be used in gay pride celebrations and gay rights protests.  He created an rainbow flag with 8 colors.  The pink color was dropped because it was too difficult to find for mass production.  And indigo was later dropped to make there be an even number of stripes.  And that's how we came to have the Rainbow Flag with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple on it.

Mr. Gilbert Baker, the father of the Gay Pride Rainbow Flag!

Mark Bingham

Mr Bingham was born in 1970.  He had formed his own public relations firm in San Francisco and was an avid rugby player.  He was on flight United93 when it was hijacked on September 11, 2001.  He was credited with being in a group of people on board who made and executed a plan retake the plane.  Due to their actions the plane crashed into the Pennsylvania countryside and not somewhere in DC.

Eight years of hard labor, now seems suddenly to fade away....

Geez, I missed it again.  June 23, 2013 was the 8th Anniversary of Polt's Palace!

Eight years.....if the Palace was m kid, it'd be getting ready to start 3rd grade in the fall!

June 23, 2005........

Dad, Angel, and Ted Kennedy were still alive.  Katrina was just a girls name and meant nothing to New Orleans.  Barack Obama wasn't even six months into his US Senate term.  Hillary Clinton was a US Senator from New York.  Joe Biden was a US Senate from Delaware.  And Vice President Dick Cheney was telling other Senators to "Go fuck yourself" on the floor of the US Senate.

Bossy Know-It-All Coworker was still being the Queen Bitch at work (instead of working at a gas station like she is now!  Ah, poetic justice, what a fine creature you are.)  I had yet to meet Kris (which is a good thing, since he was still in HIGH SCHOOL at that time!!!!).   The ParisPekings were recently married, although still childless.  Ag was my closest friend.  I was driving Miss Cleo, renting the apartment, and making trip to Toronto twice annually.

I had not yet met any of the Puntabugang....and in fact, at that point in time, there was no such thing as a Puntabugang.  Or  Puntabulous either for that matter.  Nor Cocky And Rude.  Nor Coopers Corner.  Nor any of the others.

I had a house phone and a crappy little cellphone.  I had dialup Internet service.  I still had more video tapes than I did DVDs.  I was still occasionally buying porn magazines.  And I was still buying my weekly comic books with anticipation instead of nearly giving up on them as I am now.

I played Dungeons & Dragons every other Sunday with a group of people I haven't seen in years now.  I had yet to watch a single episode of Doctor Who.  I weighed around 40 pounds more than I do now.  I had not yet heard any music by Muse.  I had not yet been to Long Island, the Stonewall Inn, or Columbus Ohio.  Sandra Day O'Connor was still on the Supreme Court.  Ed Rendell was governor of PA.

And I was only 37 years old.

*SIGH*....where HAS the time gone?

POLT

They have a fight, Triangle wins, Triangle Man....

I SWEAR my life is like a Jerry Springer episode.

Today, I had off work.  (Mom and I were going to finish cleaning my downstairs.  And YES, mom comes down and helps me.  We get it done faster if there's two of us, AND, it actually gets done, as opposed to me trying to do it by myself and just starting at the mess and wishing it was already done.  Dont judge me...)

So anyway, I had off work today.  And I had the afternoon free.  This guy whom I'll call C texted me about getting together this afternoon.  And of course I said yes.

A bit of background on C, I met him online right after I moved into the house, so that would be Fall of 2009-ish.  We fooled around a few times here and a few times at his place in a nearby town, and then I heard nothing from him for months, maybe over a year.  Then out of the blue, he contacts me again, he had moved to a nearby town and I went to his place two or three times and we fooled around there.  So far this year, we've tried to get together, but our schedules never clicked.  And he had mentioned he had gotten married.  I didn't if to a man or a woman.

So anyway, he gets here this afternoon and we're playing around, which includes the bedtimesexxyfun and some periods of cuddling and talking inbetween. And while cuddling, I asked what his spouses name was.  He said John (NOT his real name, but a boy's name nonetheless)..  Okay, so that clears all that up for me.

Then later, I asked if they played together and he said sometimes, and I asked him to describeJohn, which he did, in somewhat general terms.  And then the sex started again.

So a bit later, while he's...doing something....down there, it hits me.  He has described TL!

Now, TL is someone I've not mentioned on here yet. I first met him online back in March of 2011.  We hooked up three times, wanted more, but never got around to getting together.  He told me the first time he was married, I assumed to a woman because he's so, well butch.  And I was okay with that.  It was only on the second time that he told me he had married a man and didn't want me to be under the impression it was a woman.  And the way I remember TL describing his husband is an exact description of C!

I've fucked both of these guys!  Separately!  And they don't know it!

I KNOW!

So I asked C, since they play together, I would be up for a threesome with them, if they were both up for it. His eyes got big and he seemed to be excited and all about the idea.  So i told him bring it up with TL at your leisure and let me know if you guys want to.  It'll be fun, I told him.

Fun.  Yeah.  Wait until they both discover I've already had them both.  I mean, it may be a bit awkward at first, but really I dont think it's going to be a problem.  I mean, we've already all had sex with each other, just not together.  Still, I'm not sure that fun is exactly what it will be.  If it indeed every happens.

A Jerry Springer episode, I swear.

Going to the chapel and we're, gonna get married....

So the Supreme's struck down parts of DOMA and allowed gay marriages to occur in California.  And for that, I say HURRAH!

I am happy about all this, don't get me wrong.  It IS truly a great day in Gay History.  And these decisions were released on the 10 year anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that overturned all law nationwide making gay sex illegal, AND just a few days short of the 44 anniversary of Stonewall.  Great news, perfect timing.

My excitement IS muted, however over a few things.  Both decisions were 5-4, which surprised me, actually.  In DOMA, there was no surprises at the line up: Kennedy and the four liberal Justices.  But the Prop 8 one, frankly, left me slack-jawed.  It too was 5-4, but the lineup was Ginsburg, Breyer and Kagan (no surprises there), Roberts (which I kinda thought might be the case) and......take a breath now....Scalia?

WHAT?

Yeah, I said Scalia!  Mr. Right Wing himself.  Very surprising.  What was even MORE surprising, AND a bit disturbing, was to find the dissenters as Thomas and Alito (no surprises there), but to have Kennedy and even MORE so Sotomayor in dissent???

What the hell, Sonia??

I haven't read her dissent yet, so hopefully her rationale is something positive (like maybe she didn't want to rule on standing, as the majority did, maybe she wanted to go further and rules on the merits of the case...maybe she thought the rulings didn't go far enough, so she dissented?  That might be okay).

And also, my high emotions are tempered by the fact that I, living in Pennsylania, still can't legally get married.  And these decisions did nothing to change that.  (I think, according to the DOMA decision, though, were I to be married in Maryland and then return to PA to live, my husband and I would now be able to file joint federal tax returns and stuff like that, even as PA refusing to recognize our marriage and we'd have to file separately for state taxes and such).  And these decisions did nothing to help the 70% of the American populace who live in the 38 (well, 37 now that Prop 8 is history) states where marriage equality is still just a dream.  They are certainly NOT a decision like Loving, from the 60s which outlawed bans on interracial marriages nationwide.

But they are both very good, very positive, historic things.  And are major stepping stone on the road to true marriage equality for all.  And again, for that I say HURRAH!

We still have a long way to go.  but today, just for now, let's just revel in and celebrate where we are and how far we've come.  And let's leave the future struggles to the future.

Russell T. Davies

Mr. Davies was born in 1963.  He worked in the children's division of BBC until in 1994 he started writing adult dramas.  After almost dying from a drug overdose, he cleaned himself up and decided to write a series based upon his experiences as a gay man in Manchester England.  This became the groundbreaking show Queer As Folk.  The origin 8 episodes were broadcast in 1999, the second series released in 2000.

His greatest achievement, IMO, was restarted and revitalizing the Doctor Who franchise after a 16 year hiatus.  He was with the series from 2005 to 2010, when he left it.  And it's been to the series' detriment that he's not working on it anymore.  He also created the spin-offs Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Gay Guys From History

King Edward II of England

Edward lived from 1284 - 1327.  He was king from 1307 until deposed by his wife Isabella in 1327.  Despite fathering at least five children by two women, Edward had male favourites whom he could deny nothing.  First Piers Gaveston and then Hugh Dispencer, and they both more than likely had a romantic if not sexual relationship with the king.  Both of them met with horrific ends, one having a sword run through his heart and beheaded and the other dragged by a horse, Biblcal verses written on his skin, hanged, castrated and drawn and quartered.

Edward himself was killed (probably suffocated or strangled) on orders from his wife, who had lead an invasion of England, overthrew Edward, and took him prisoner.  She ruled the country as regent for three years until her son, Edward III came of age and assumed the throne.
