Today In Gay History (Part 27)...

Gay Guys From History

Harvey Milk

Mr. Milk was born in 1930.  He became the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California when he was elected to San Francisco Board Of Supervisors in 1977.  He was responsible for passing a stringent gay rights ordinance.  After 11 months in office, in November of 1978, Milk and Mayor George Moscone were assassinated by Dan White, another Supervisor who had quit but wanted his job back.  Milk was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal Of Freedom in 2009.
