Someone book me a room (Part 365)...

Chapter 12, Page 30...

Wednesday, I got up and to work actually a lil bit early.  Work wasn't too bad, had the normal stuff to do, which I did get done.  Then I got the info that we civilians were given two hours early release.  So at 2PM, off I went.  To home.

I got here, and hung out all night here, not doing much of anything.  Was on the computer.  Would have read, had I a book I was in the process of reading (I'm waiting until the first of the year to start the new one).  Watched some Star Trek: Next Generation reruns.  Gathered up the trash and set it out.  Had snacky stuff for supper.

Honestly, about 7PM, i was ready for bed...or felt like it.  But that's becuase I was home 5 hours, and usually when I'm home 5 hours it's 9PM and my body says its time for bed.

Instead Diego texted and then called me.  And we chatted.  For like two hours.  he's so easy to talk to.  And funny.  And interesting.  I enjoy our hour long chats.  Finally, at 930, we hung up. I went to bed, read some (graphic novels), was on the phone some and then about 10:15, turned out the light and went to sleep.

Chapter 12, Page 29...

Tuesday, I got up and to work roughly on time.  Again, only one other person in my department was there today (the other still on vacation) and I was working by myself the next two days, just like last week.  So my coworker took the new clients and handled them and allowed me to get the weekly paperwork finished.  Which I did.  And I thanked him for doing that for allowing me to get that done.

And other than talking with my coworker three times, that was pretty much all I did.  Mainly because the paperwork took so much time.  After work, I came home here and hung until the designated time.

BP (the guy with the back porch) had contacted me yesterday and asked about getting together.  So we decided this night, at about 630.  And, lo, about 630, I arrived at his back porch.  We went into the....well I guess I'd call it a porch gazebo (it's like a gazebo, but with opaque flaps on four sides and a roof...and its on his porch).  He sealed the main flap and we had our bedtimesexxyfun there.  He had the small heater going and they had lights strung up inside this time.  It was quite fun, as it has been the two previous times.

Afterwards, since I was out near the Hallmark store anyway, I just went there and got my cards for the month of January.  I also stopped by Hardee's for a roast beef and fries.  I brought them home and ate them while watching Golden Girls and Facts Of Live reruns on TVLand.

After a bit of this, I ended up going to bed about 8:30.  My stomach's been a little rumble-y since yesterday.  Not feeling bad, per se, but not feeling...right.  Don't know how else to say it.  At any rate, I took some Pepto,  got into bed, read a little bit.  Then I turned out the light and went to sleep.

Chapter 12, Page 28...

Monday, I got up at 8:30, which is early for me on a day I'm off work, but I had plans.  I showered, dressed, grabbed my book, went to Rutters for coffee and then headed out to Derick's house.  He had wanted to get tested for HIV for some time, and now was the day we scheduled for me to drive him somewhere to get it done.

As we were driving to Chambersburg, I asked him to check the place we were going to make sure they were open and that he didn't need an appointment.  He said we were going to Planned Parenthood, but when he called them, the message said they weren't open.  He had another place in mind, and called them, but they didn't do HIV testing on Mondays.  However, the lady on the phone luckily suggested another place.  He got the address, he looked it up on his phone, and we headed out there.

This place was an Infectious Disease Clinic (!!!) and it was on the second floor above an Urgent Care.  When we entered the large waiting room, he went over to the window, and I took my book and coffee and went to the far corner to sit in a chair there.  There were only about three other people in the room, but none of them were near that corner.  And I didn't really want to be close to anyone in there...I didn't know if they had the flu or colds or what have you.

But Derick came over and sat next to me.  He said they DO take walk-ins and it IS a free test.  He said the lady said something about an oral test, and he didn't know what that was.  I told him the testing could be done by a blood draw or by a swab on the inside of your cheek.  That was what the oral test was.

So he was one his phone, I was reading my book, until they called his name.  And when he went inside, he was in there for quite a while.  I wondered what was taking so long, AND I was really glad I had brought my book along.  Eventually, he came out, we left the waiting room and as we were walking down the stairs, he high fived me and said, "Negative!"  We were both happy.

He said after doing the swab it was a 20 minute wait, and then they'd have the results, so that's what the delay was.  She gave him a little baggie of things: Condoms, lube, etc, etc, etc.    After this, we went to a local store he wanted to get something at.  And then I took him back home.  And at his suggestion, we had some bedtimesexxyfun.

After this, I came home.  I mailed some things, got gas for the car and got a few things at the grocery store that I forgot the day before.  I came home, put that all away, and did two loads of laundry.  While that was going on, I was on the computer, and I FINALLY finished the book I was reading on Richard The Lionheart.  I started the damn thing on November 22, and it took me OVER a month to get it done!  It was a long book, over 500 pages, and it had smallish print.  And I was into the book, but it still took me a long time to get through it.  But at least it's done.

Since there's only three more days left in the year, I'm not going to start a new book now.  I'll wait until the 1st of January to start a new one.  I dont like my books to overlap calendar years (yes I am a freak).  So I'll just do other stuff over the next couple days.

I also watched the football pre-game show, and wrapped the last three gifts I had (I'm giving them to their recipient on New Year's Eve) and then just vegetated on the couch until it was time to go up to bed.

Chapter 12, Page 27...

Sunday I got out of bed about 11AM.  I showered, dressed and waited for mom.  She stopped by about 12:15, picked me up and we went to Hardee's for a quick, fast food lunch.  Then she dropped me off here and I started watching football.  A bit later, as planned, A Local Celebrity, Mr. David ParisPeking showed up and we watched over four hours of football together.  We watched the Steelers lose (which while not as good as if Washington had lost, it was still nice to watch), and then watched the early part of the Packers getting shellacked by the Cardinals.  We ordered pizzas and ate them during the second game.  And then ALCMDPP left for home.

I watched the rest of the game, was online some, watched the pre-game show for the evening game and a bit of that game as well.  But for some reason, I was pretty tired.  So a little after 9, I went up to bed.  I read a little bit, and turned out the light at 10:45 and went to sleep.

And slept GOOD!  It was comfy and warm, and the sheets felt extrasoft or something.  Anyway, it was a great night's sleep!

Chapter 12, Page 26...

Saturday, I got up about 11.  I showered, dressed and then headed out. I went to Hallmark and got next year's Christmas cards (half off!), and then to the grocery store.  We were having the family Christmas this afternoon, I was to bring deviled eggs.  Christmas Eve I hard boiled the dozen eggs I had.  Christmas Day evening, I set out to make them, but.....the shells would not come off in anything other than tiny little pieces and the inner film that covers the eggs wouldn't come off either.  So I ended up ruining two eggs trying to get them ready. I just said screw it and I'd get a bag those pre-hard boiled and peeled eggs and use those.  So that's what I got at the store.

I brought them home and started to cut them in half....and I could NOT get the yokes to come out without ruining the white parts.  After destroying two eggs that way, I said fuck it and gave up.  I called mom and told her that we weren't going to have any deviled eggs, and explained what had happened.  She laughed and said she could make them, but I told her that's not why I called, I just wanted to let her know they wouldn't be there.  She said she was just sitting there knitting to pass some time, so she'd go out and make them.  And she did.  So we DID have eggs after all.

Until it was time to leave for mom's, I laid on the couch and read, was on the computer and even napped a bit.  Then I packed up all the gifts for my young cousins I had gotten and headed out.

When I got to mom's we loaded my stuff and her stuff into her car and we went to the home (there's an old folk's home that was there first, and the retirement village mom lives at rose up around it).  Grandma's in the home and can't get around well, so mom reserved the one room for us to have the family Christmas at.

We got there a bit early, but we helped my uncle and his wife set things up.  Then the family showed up...ALL of them.  Twenty eight people including the two year old and 15 month old!  YAY!  First time in many years all of us were together at Christmas.

We ate our fill.  We gave gifts to the 7 youngest cousins, and some to each other.  And a few to grandma.  We sat and socialized.  And then, about three hours later, we packed it all up and left.

Mom and I went back to her cottage, and we were followed by three cars full of people, basically, all the cousins who had yet to see her place.  And so she gave them a tour, and we sat and talked a bit.  Then they all headed out.  I stayed for a short while and chatted with mom, then I too returned home here and unloaded the stuff from my car.

I settled in to watch the Washington-Philadelphia football game, but had a visit from an occasional fuckbuddy.  So we had some bedtimesexxyfun.  After he left, I watched most of the rest of the game, until at least 11:00pm.  The game wasn't over, but it was clear Washington was going to win, and I didn't need to see that.  So I went to bed, and being tired, I didn't read or anything, pretty much just turned out the light and went to sleep.

I didn't think to take but one pic during the family Christmas, but others there did take some.  Here's one I like:

That's my grandmother with her four kids (Mama Polt is of course second from the left).  Not meaning to be in the photo, but there anyway from this angle, is...ME!  Wearing the Santa hat (cause I hand out the gifts now) and that's my cousin-in-law Tiffany, with her elf ears hat on too.  She's my assistant, and I'm grateful to have her!  She gets all the gifts organized by person and then hands them to me to hand to the person.  I'd be lost without her organizational skills!

Chapter 12, Page 25...

Christmas Day, I got up about 9:30.  I showered, dressed, and packed up my Christmas Gifts for mom.  Then I headed on out to her place.

When I got there, she had to finish preparing something for lunch, and then we went into her living room and opened our gifts.  This was MY haul, before the unwrapping:

Beautiful purple wrapping paper.  Anyway, after the unwrapping, this is what I got:

A mug, some strawberry hand soap, gift card to the local movie theater, Star Trek ornament, Superman ornament, two boxes of White House Annual Christmas Tree ornaments (she's now gotten me each and every one ever made from the start in like 1980 or so), and of course, the YARD OF TWIX!  Yes, yes indeed that is a YARD OF TWIX!

I asked what she was thinking giving a YARD OF TWIX to a diabetic!  Her reply?  "Well it was either Twix or Snickers."  HUH?  Like one is better than the other for a diabetic????   Ah, well, that's Mama Polt!

I got her a book she wanted, some minutes for her track phone that she wanted, a subscription to a magazine.  And then I also got her this:

The daughter of a lady I work with is very artistic.  I asked her to paint a picture of mom's house, the one she owned for 49 years and just moved out of this year.  I took a crappy photo of it with my cellphone and emailed it to her.  And from that (and one visit to the place in person to look at a few things) she painted this.  Oh my God, it's amazing!  And incredible job!   When mom opened it and saw it, she started crying.  I teared up too.  She asked how I did this, and I told her the story I related above (with a few more details).

I didn't get it framed, because she's pretty picky about the wood in all her frames in one room matching the furniture, the other frames, etc.  So I told her, once she figured out where she wanted to hang it, we could take it somewhere and get it framed and I'd pay for it then.  She just loved it.

After this, my mother's sister and her husband, and my mother's brother and his wife, arrived, and then the six of us ate Christmas dinner.  Mom, as usual, went crazy with the cooking.  Turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, homemade bread, cranberry sauce, corn.  And for dessert, she had fruit salad, ice cream, two different cakes, and something else I can't remember.  Just crazy!  After eating this, and cleaning up, we all went into the living room and sat and chatted for a while.

All day, I'd been fighting off a nagging headache.  Not something horrible or very painful, just kinda distracting and, well...nagging.  So after a little bit of all this, I left and came home. I was supposed to stop by Derick's, but I didn't feel like it, so I texted him and told him.  When I got home, I hung out here, on the computer, reading some, napping more than once.  And then, at 9, it was time for the Doctor Who Christmas Special.  I have not been a fan of the stories the last few years, and I expected very little out of this one as well.  But I was very pleasantly surprised.  The humor worked, was not forced or irritating and in fact, the entire show was was quite enjoyable.  Well, less so the last ten minutes or so, which got sappy.  But other than that great show.

Afterwards, I turned everything off down here, went to bed, read a little bit and then went to sleep.

"It's A Wonderful Life"

I had never ever seen this movie all the way through, even though it's been played all over the airways for years at Christmas.

Then, in 2007, the Christmas after dad died, I was at the house with mom on Christmas Eve.  I asked her if she wanted me to stay the night, and she said no, that she was fine.  I saw that It's A Wonderful Life was coming on, and since neither of us had ever seen it all the way through, we decided to watch it, the entire movie.  And thus, was the first time I saw it.

But it wasn't the last.  For a dozen years or so, my Christmas Eve tradition was to watch the Christmas episode of "My So-Called Life" because it touched me so what with the gay character Ricky being kicked out by his family and then finally accepted by Angela's mother.  Brought tears every time.  And after that, I watched the best Christmas Special ever: The Year Without A Santa Claus.  LOVE that one.  The songs, the characters, the fun.  And it cheered me up.  And then I'd go to bed.

Well since 2007, my tradition is just It's A Wonderful Life.  I like the alternative universe part of it (something I've always been attracted to in comic books and sci-fi), as well most of the characters in it.  A good, enjoyable film.

Chapter 12, Page 24...

So Thursday, Christmas Eve, I had to work.  Which is not a problem because at work, the holidays are laid back without too many new clients coming in or too may problems.  Usually.  This year, however, was NOT usual.  In any sense of the word.

It was freakin' crazy!  There was a total of eight new clients.  A few were acting a little strange, one was certainly certifiable.  Just crazy shit.  And I was supposed to leave work at two (since either the county government or the Big Boss gave civilians two hours off if they worked the last day before the holidays.  Which I did.)  And it repeatedly looked like that wasn't going to happen.  Although, thankfully, in the end, I left about 2:10 instead of 2:00.  No problems.

On the plus side, thanks to a co-workers reminding me the day before, I ordered pizzas and had them delivered for the staff at lunch Christmas Eve. (I've done this the last, 4 or 5 years.  It's a nice gift to them all, and they all appreciate it)  So at least we had pizza for lunch.

But, because of all the chaos earlier in the day, I ended up getting a nagging headache.  When I got home, I just hung out here on the couch doing nothing, other than a load of towels through the laundry.  I read some.  I was on the computer some.  I napped a bit.

I wasn't feeling the Christmas spirit.  I was still stressed about on going issues here at home.  It's crazy warm here, like 70 degrees, on Christmas Eve (but don't worry, Global warming is just a hoax, ask any Republican!), it certainly doesn't feel like Christmas.

But I knew "It's A Wonderful Life" was on this night.  So, I had a glass of beers, refilling it once, and I watched the movie.  That helped somewhat increase my festiveness.  And when it ended, I was ready for bed, going up, reading just a short bit and then going to sleep.

Merry Christmas, one and all!

Here's a couple things for you to enjoy on this holiday.

Yep....that's me.

The DS9 crew wishes you Merry Christmas (and Happy Hanukkah from Sisko).  Jake's looking pretty dapper in the bow tie, eh?

Slighty sacrilegious, but pretty damn funny.

And oldie but a goodie.

This is the best part of the entire movie.  I want this on a t-shirt.  Or in a framed photo hung on the wall above my sofa!

Have the most festive Christmas you've ever had.
