Today would have been Ag's 61st Birthday.
For approximately a dozen year in the late 90s/early 2000s, she was my best friend, my nearly constant companion. We made about a dozen and half trips to Toronto. We went to probably ten Gay Pride parades together. I got her to move out of the drafty, falling down trailer she was living in into an apartment in my building. We were, I think, like brother and sister (and I say that not having any siblings, so I can only surmise). We had fun together, but she also irritated me sometimes. As siblings do.
When she married we kinda fell apart from each other, which only makes sense. She was spending time with her husband, not me. And when they moved out into another place, I don't know what i saw her but once a year, if that. And that was only in a store or somewhere, where we just said hi. Friendships do change, grow, grow old, and die.
She died 5 years ago in December 2021 from COVID. It was sudden. She was sick like Tuesday, entered the hospital Friday and died Monday.
But today is her birthday. I'm not drinking alcohol today, but I may open a Stella, and give a toast to her memory. Rest in peace Stephanie Lohr aka Ag.
