The cards never lie, my last breath a sigh...

The end of each month, I make a list of events I need cards for the following month and go to the local Hallmark store to get them.  I hate the month of May when it comes to cards.  Other than all the Christmas cards I send out in December, this is the most cards I buy at any one time.  I just got finished there and I spent damn near $50.  It seems everyone was either born of married in May!  And this does not, by the way, include a card for Mother's Day because I just now remembered I forgot to get one!  Sheesh!

Next year, why don't a few of my friends and/or family just say their born in June?  Or August?  Those are slow months for me.

Call in three months time and I'll be fine (Part 5)...

THURSDAY THREE

What three things made my week just a smidge more enjoyable?

1). Having a computer that works.

StratCat helped reformat it and get it all back up and running last week, which was awesome.  But when I started mucking around with iTunes earlier in the week, I discovered there were no song there, just folders.  Apparently, I only saved the folders, not the music.  So after much exhaustive experimentation by myself, I got it back up and working and I've got all 205 of the items I've purchased over the years.  I now just have to spend countless hours getting the remaining 3000 songs onto the laptop from the CDs I own.  *SIGH*  And when doing so last night, the laptop got a lil wonky ad decided not to take all the songs, and got hung up and locked up iTunes.  But today, when i did it, everything worked fine!  So for now, this is still a plus! (BTW, does the guy in this photo look to anyone else like the love child of Craiggers and Jimmy Fallon?  Or am I the only one to think that?)

2). Pedometer app.

I downloaded this baby over the weekend, and now when I got for walks, I not only have how long it takes me, but how many miles i've gone, what my average speed was, and the calories burned!  This photo is a generic one I found online, but it's the same app I have.  And last night, in 38 minutes, I walked 2.215 miles, at an average of 3.7 mph, and I burned 179 calories!  Yay me!  And my app!

3) Desiree wafers

I just recently discovered these little slices of heaven on earth.  Their various types of soft, crunchy wafers with chocolate on or in them.  They're a product of Germany.   And they are SO NOT on my diet.  But serving size (4 wafers) contains 20 grams of carbs, which is almost what I'm allowed for a snack.  So I can enjoy three, or four (or eight) at a time and not feel really horribly guilty.  But man if I could, I think I could seriously eat half a bag at one sitting, they are truly THAT delicious!

So that's what made my week, what made yours?

Good news, it's on the way....

So, some good news with iTunes.  I noticed that the songs I downloaded, which were supposed to be all 205 but were in fact only 28 songs, were songs that were not in either my iPhone or the iTunes library that I moved from my external harddrive.  Not sure why that was the case, but that made me aware of why I wasn't perhaps getting all the songs downloaded that I purchased.

So this afternoon I wiped out the library that I had downloaded from the hard drive, and uninstalled iTunes.  Then I reinstalled it, and then downloaded all my purchased songs.  And I got ALL of them, all 205!

The other 2500 songs I had previously I put on myself from all the CD's I own.  So I can get them back on there, although it'll be a pain having to do it again.  Nonetheless, other than the time involved in actually putting them back on, it looks like iTunes is okay, fine and good again.

So now I've got a bunch of work ahead of me, putting all that music on there.  Ah well, it'll give me something to do while i watch stupid stuff on TV.

People try to judge me when they're not in my shoes (Part 12)...

Last night, I watched  Last Days, and I'm glad I got it on Netflix and didn't buy it, cause it totally sucked.

It's a Gus Van Sant movie, so it surprised me that I didn't like it, I usually like his stuff.  But this time, no...not so much.

It's a take on the last days of Nirvana's Kurt Cobain.  It stars Micheal Pitt, who wanders throughout the movie in hairthing quite similar to Cobain's, so I enjoy that.  And he's shirtless several times, which was enjoyable as well.  And there's a scene between Pitt and Lukas Haas where they underdress (unfortunately not full frontal though) and get into bed and kiss once.  The assumption is that they then have sex, which is tantalizing, but take place all off screen.

And that's it.  Other than that, the movie consists of Pitt/Cobain wandering around a large nearly empty house in the woods, avoiding the three or four other people there.  He doesn't have many lines, in fact, no one does.  It's an hour and thirty seven minutes of basically nothing happening.  And the ending it known before the movie starts.

This is similar to how Van Sant did the Columbine-esque movie Elephant, which I loved.  But this time around, it just doesn't work for me.  Honestly, I was bored throughout and several times thought of turning it off, but I wanted to see if anything even remotely interesting would happen.  Nothing did.

I can't in any way recommend it.  Avoid it like the plague.

I fear I may have just saved the folders and not the actual iTunes library when I did the backup before the reformat.  And when I went to iTunes to download what I had already purchased, I see there are 205 items. Ive been spending the evening removing all the duplicates from my iTunes library (every single song came back with a copy of it).  Whoa, yeah, that's fun.  And I discovered that while I remembered to save pretty much all the photos I wanted to use for the blog, for whatever reason, I did NOT save the Chest file, the one that had like 4000 photos for me to use for Monday's Hot Shirtless Guy Photos for the next, oh, 25 years or so.  SO I've got go out and try to track down a bunch of them when I'm done with iTunes.

But in the meantime, I may have mentioned somewhere I'm on a low to no carb diet.  Fun?  Sure it is.  But I'm also trying to exercise more.  And I've been keeping track of it since the beginning of the month.  So, in the 20 days we've had so far in April, I have taken 14 walks on 12 different days.  They've ranged in length from 10 minutes to 45 minutes...and I walk pretty fast.   It's been 448 minutes of walks, for an average of 32 minutes each time I take a walk.  Pretty good for someone who, just six months ago, barely walked more than from the sofa to the fridge.

And now, back to iTunes and the deleting of the duplicates.

Recap...

So you may have noticed I was gone for a lil bit.  Like a smidge over two weeks.  yeah, something like that.  Something like that.  So i thought I might just give a short update of what's been happening to and with me in that time.

I realized I've got some great friends who are willing to sacrifice their evenings to help out a friend with a computer virus on their computer (I'm looking at you, StratCat and Corey).  I went to a wedding and had an amazing time with friends there.  I discovered that I quite enjoy a local vineyard's Route 9 Red Wine (so much so I had 10 glasses in one evening!).  Grandma Polt got a pacemaker, and she's still recovering, but doing quite well.  I had a dry streak sexually, until the 15th when Kris came back.  And I spent a wonderful, but sadly short, few hours with him.  Apparently, he's supposed to be moving back to the area, maybe as soon as next month.  I ate a hard boiled Easter egg mom had colored for me.  Out of the 19 days so far in April, I've taken a walk on 11 of them, for an average time of 33 minutes each.  I got to drive my very first Mercedes!  I filed my local taxes for last year, and even though I paid them last year quarterly, it turns out I misestimated them by one dollar, so I sent a check in with my form for one dollar.  Was very thankful for having my iPhone, cause it was my lifeline to the Internet when my laptop was all tits up.  Corey spent an evening here...on the sofa.  I've made plans to have, hopefully, my first threesome in several years tomorrow night.  Have eaten more steak, sausages, burger patties, and eggs thatn I have in the last year all put together.  Lost 5 pounds (more of less).  Watched the movie "The Birds" twice on cable.  Vacuumed the upstairs hallway and cleaned the sink and toilet.  Did perhaps seven loads of laundry.  Pre-ordered the second season of The Walking Dead.  Played an insane number of Words With Friends games.  Finished the first Lord Of The Rings Book, read an entire Doctor Who book and started a Star Trek book.  Had several crazy dreams that I remember, which is crazy, not only because of the dreams content, but because I NEVER remember my dreams.  Flirted shamelessly with a server behind the bar at the wedding.  Read a Fineus and Ferb book with my 7 year old cousin.   Got new glasses.  Bought an external hard drive.  And I'm sure a few other things I'm forgetting, but you get the idea.

So...how has YOUR April been so far?

I'm back in the saddle again....

Well Im typing this to you from my newly reformatted laptop.  StratCat spent like four hours here (and I spent $21 for shrimp and $12 buck for Asti for us both as a thank you gift to her), and got everything refomatted, all the stuff downloaded, and it's back up and running.

There are some small differences, like when I loaded my iTunes back on every single song is now in there twice, and I forgot to save all my previous playlists, which SUCKS, but at least I've got iTunes back again.  And I still dont have any of my photos or documents reloaded back on, so there is that.  But my anti-virals are up and running and she's running like a charm!  the laptop, not StratCat....although she may be running that way anyway.

So, assuming I can get all my other shit uploaded tomorrow by myself, without any problems (which is by NOT means assured), I'll be back to posting to The Palace pretty regularly again, hopefully by the weekend.

Three cheers for StratCat!  Laura, you freakin' ROCK!

MIssed you, you've been away, away, I've missed you....

Okay, so no the laptop isn't fixed, it's still viral-bound. Corey said he's help me reformat it, since I found the start up disks, but, he's got college, a job, and a girl-friend, so I realize I'm fourth on his priority list. And I'm okay with all that. Its understandable. So i spoke to StratCat from work, she who knows he way around a computer, and she said she'll help me some night this week to get it done. So it shouldn't be to much longer...I hope.

Anyway, today, Kris was here. YAY!!! Today was his 22nd birthday. He and Sean came up yesterday and a huge birthday party was held somewhere (he invited me but I had a wedding yesterday and didn't get home until 10:30 so I was tired and was slightly intoxicated...and I knew I would be both so I had declined when he asked me initially) and much fun was apparently had by all. And then, as planned, this afternoon we were getting together. He texted me and asked me to meet them at High Rock, which I did, actually getting there first. When Kris and Sean showed up, Kris's friend Victor was rising along. Kris showed the views to Sean, who had never seen them before, and then basically said he was going back to my place with me, Sean and Victor could show up here when they got done....and hopefully when we were done as well.

So he and I came back to my house for some bedtimesexxyfun. Damn, did I miss him. I've had sex with several guys since Kris moved in January, and yeah, some of it was really good. But, with Kris, there's something more. There's some...connection. Some chemistry. That thing that i don't have with the other guys. And it was amazing to be with him again.

It was a smidge awkward when Mom called while Kris was....busy doing something to me. Luckily, she didn't want to talk long (I HAD to answer it, it could have been something important!). And it was further a bit awkward when Sean texted to say they were at my front door. I threw on some clothes, let them in, turned on the TV and gave them the remote and then headed back upstairs. Kris and I wrapped everything up in like twenty minutes or less and came back downstairs.

Then, the four of us sat here in my living room and talked for like 45 minutes. It was fun. Sean is interesting, Victor is as cute as a gay boy can be, and quite funny too. So we had a good time talking. And then the three of them left, cause they had to get back to Richmond this evening.

I miss him again already. On the plus side, since things aren't working out very well for him where he is now, he's planning on moving back to Hagerstown, hopefully the first week of May, but I think it'll take longer than that. Irregardless, if all goes as planned, he'll get back sometime soon, and that means, he and I will be seeing more of each other, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

Ring my bell-ell-ell, ring my bell...

(Virus still not going from computer, so blogging will still be light for the forseeable future.  Don't know when I'll get it fixed...*SIGH*)

Over the weekend, I finished the first Lord Of The Rings book, for the first time.  Yes, yes, I know, someone like me who's been playing Dungeons&Dragons, and other role playing games, off and on for 30 years, and I've JUST NOW read The Lord Of The Rings?  What can I say...I'm a loser.

I tried the book twice before and just couldn't get into it.  This time I stuck with it, but it took me three weeks to get through it.  And it was quite a slog.  God, it got boring at parts.  I mean they spent like a third of the book doing NOTHING but walking!  SHEESH!  And Tom Bombadil...what the FUCK was THAT all about?????  And the SONGS!  Oh there were soooooo many different songs.  Honestly, I didn't read a sing one of them, I just simply went on to when the singing was over and took up reading again.

All in all, I was disappointed.  A bit bored.  I was expecting....I don't know, something more, something I'm more like used to.  I prefer the Dragonlance trilogy so much so I've even read it more than once.  I just think too much time was wasted on inconsequential things.  I honestly preferred the movie to the book.

I want to read the remaining books, but I've not idea if I'll actually ever do it.  I dont imagine they change much after the first.

Ah, well, it was nice to finally see where D&D, Dragonlance, and Peter Jackson's movies came from.  I can appreciate what the book's done, laying the foundation and all, for many things in place now.  And for that it was interesting.  Otherwise....pretty meh.

Friday, April 06, 2012

Yesterday, in addition to finding out I'd have to reformat my computer (*SIGH*), I also had an eye appointment.  My prescription didn't change much, which is good.  She dilated my pupils and after about a half hour, shined this light in my eyes and looked in.  She was checking to make sure the tiny blood vessels at the back of my eye, that are particularly susceptable to diabetes, had not ruptured, cause, when that happens, there'll be a black spot in my vision.  And there's nothing they can do for that, there's not way to correct it.  But luckily, everything looked okay.

The bad part was, since my pupils were dilated, I couldn't see a dman thing.  Everything was blurry.  Blurry for like four or five hours.  And I got a pretty decent headache from it all as well.

She told me the dilation wouldn't affect my driving but since I didn't have any sunglasses with me, she gave me these super-spiffy plastic tinted shield thingees to put behind my glasses.  Oh how stylish they were.  But at a stop light, I took them off to see how it was, and since the sun was bright and shiney, I was damn near blinded by the brightness!  I immediately dropped the shield thingees back down.  They helped me home.

And this is what I looked like:

Jealous arent you?

POLT
Blogging may be a bit light for a short while, I've got yet ANOTHER virus. :(

Corey come over last night to look at it.  he said this is a bad one.  it's disabled all my anti-virals, AND it's disbaled our ability to sue restore points.  *SIGH*  Corey said he'd have to spend several hours working on it, and he knows he could get it back to working order, but his fear is that he wouldn't get it all, that part of it could be hidden somewhere, and it would just rise up and attack again in six months, or a year or whatever.  he suggested we just reformat it and start over to be sure.

*SIGH*

So I spent last night saving photos and documents to a flashdrive to reinstall later.  Also, gotta figure out what I'm gonna do with iTunes, it'd be a pain to have to reinstall all my own CDs that I've done so far.

Whatever.

I can still use it, I just dont have any antivirals running, so I'm going to  use it sparingly, thus, why I say posting may be limited.  And I've got to find the discs that came with it.  They were sitting on my coffee table forever, and I remember telling myself I need to put them someplace safe, where I"ll never forget where they are, and....well, yeah, I totally forgot where I put them.  But once I find them, I'll call Corey and he'll come over and help me get it back up and running.

He did end up spending the night last night on the couch again, so we had a lot of time to talk, which is always cool.  That's about the only good thing to this whole damn virus shit: getting to hang with him.

Ah well, if you see posts on here, great, if not, you'll see them again sometime soon in the future, sooner rather than later I hope.  And I've still got my iPhone so I'm not totally cut off from the outside world at home.  That's at least one good thing.

I'd fix it I'd fix it, I'd fix it if I could...

Had laptop issues yesterday.  Was connected but I couldn't get access to any websites.  Called my coworker Startcat.  She came over and God bless her soul, she spent 5 hours here trying to fix it.  I ended up having to call Corey, cause he's a computer whiz.  He said to try some things, which we did, none of which helped.  Then StratCat, in her brillance, suggested something, and we tried it, and it worked!

The computer's still a bit wonky.  I can't get the anti-viral to work, it won't let me uninstall it, I downloaded it again, it won't let me resintall it.  *SIGH*  Well Corey's coming over tomorrow anyway, I'll just have him look at it then and see if he can work it out.

But it's pretty awesome having such cool friends that they'd give up their whole evening just to work on my computer.  Thanks again, Stratcat!

This is the cover the upcoming Wonder Woman issue #8.

A few months ago, DC rebooted thier entire line of comics, canceling everything and restarting it from scratch, and this cover totally epitomizes what is wrong with the whole thing.

Wonder Woman firing pistols!?!?!?  WHAT THE FUCK???????

This 'new' Wonder Woman has a sword strapped to her hip and is way too eager to use it.  And I thought that was bad enough...but guns?  REALLY?

Wonder Woman was always an ambassador of peace.  Yes, she was super-strong, second only to perhaps Superman in the DC pantheon, but she was a diplomat and attempted to use her formidable offensive abilities last after everything else has failed.  Now, however, she's apparently blood-thristy, craving battle, and apparently as much at home with' hot lead' as she used to be with her magic lasso.

Apparently, in the 'new' DC Universe, Wonder Woman is little more than Bruce Willis from Die Hard with breasts.  Or Cline Eastwood in a swimsuit and tiara.  Or Steven Segal with long hair and longer shapely legs.

If it weren't true, the whole idea would be laughable.  Instead, since it's true, it's simply laughably sad and pathetic.

I can NOT wait for the time when sales plummet and DC realizes they made a huge mistake and gets things back to the way the were before and SHOULD have remained.  I give it no more than three years.  If the powers that be at DC were idiotic enough to sanction this in the first place, it'll take them several years to admit they were wrong...but hopefully no more than three.
