Listening to "All These Things I've Done" by The Killers

Friday, October 05, 2007

Hey, come out and play....

So, after work tonight, i decided to stop by Freddie's Subs (no relation to my boyfriend) and get a turkey sub. They really DO have the best subs in town. I usually stop once a week on way home. It's funny, I've done it so much now, I don't even have to order anymore. There's a cute, light-skinned black girl that works there, and as soon as she sees me coming in the door, she starts making the half a turkey sub, with cheese, lettuce, mayo and onion. And she has it ready before the lady taking my order even has it rung up. I just smile at her every time.

So i got this home, ate it with some chips and a soda. Then I watched some Star Trek: Voyager reruns, got online and made a few posts to the blog, then settle down in front of the TV again. i watched the repeat of this week's new Bionic Woman (not terribly impressed, although the shot of the shirtless long haired Asian guy was MUCH apprecaited), and started to watch the new Dr. Who. And then my phone rang. Who was it?

A Local Celebrity, Mr. David Parispeking! (ALCMDPP) yep, him. he tells me that I need excitement and spontaneity, and he needs to get out of the house and get some chicken, so i was supposed to put on some shoes and meet in a half hour at Buffalo Wild Wings. I didn't really want to go, I'm not a big fan of that restaurant, and it was already 8:20, too late to eat buffalo wings! And I have to go to work tomorrow.

So........naturally, a half hour later, I was pulling into Buffalo Wild Wing's parking lot (ah, I'm a sucker for whining and begging, what can i say?) We were seated, and despite having to wait a long to be waited on, and having to ask for silverware and napkins, waiting a long time for our drinks, we had a good time. Over beers (and a diet coke for ALCMDPP...whatta pussy), and 12 boneles wings in mild sauce for him (whatta pussy) and 12 boneless wings in medium sauce for me, we discussed and debated the issues of the day.

We covered, to my recollection, and in alphabetical order, the following: Borders Bookstores, Bushie's vetos, Canadian health care, chimney sweeps, corporations, '"Dont Ask, Dont Tell", Edwards, Elizabeth: The Golden Years, family trees, fear of heights, FEMA, Freddie, gay marriage, Ghostie, Giuliani, Hillary, home remodeling, Japanese pro-baseball players, Melissa Etheridge, Michael Moore, military spending, Montana, Obama, our jobs, peanut butter pie, race relations, Rent, Romney, socialized medicine, Superbad, taxes, the United States Congress. I'm sure there were other things I'm forgetting, but this is a rough idea.

And now, right after I post this, I'm going to bed...probably to wake up with indigestion or have some real whoppers of dreams tonight!

Man, seeing him that almost makes me wanna put on a bridal gown, grab a plane to Massachusetts and walk down the aisle! (yes, some guys are SO hot, they could possibly make Uncle Polt do drag) And ya know, that might not even BE a tux, officially. Fuck, I don't care. I don't plan on having him IN the clothes for long after our vows are said.

Polka-dotted bathrobe,
What a wonder are you.
All pink and fuzzy and
Warm and staticy too!
How I wish for one too,
But alas, I’m denied.
Must make do with nothing
But ragged old tee shirts
And worn out boxer shorts,
With their holes cause me to
Shiver and shiver and
Endlessly. Woe is me.

Props to Susie for owning the bathrobe in the first place. And for the use of her photo...

Your looks predict your statements...

Two quotes:

1) White House Spokesperson Dana Perino said this last Monday:

"Reports about very innocent people being thrown into detention, where they could be held for years without any representation or charges, is distressing."

Is the White House finally commenting on the prisoners at Gitmo? Acknowledging teh "black prisons" we've shuttled prisoners to? How we've denied them all access to attornies?

Ah....nope. This is her comment on the situation in Myanmar with the military run government there cracking down on Buddhist monks. And she said it with a straight face. Without a hint of shame or irony.

2) Fred Thompson woke up during his run for the president and gave a radio interview over the weekend. Here is part of the transcript:

Henderson: "How, as president, would you deal with Iran?" Thompson: "...I'm afraid that the Soviet Union & China are not ever going to do anything that's going to hurt them that badly but we need to ratchet those up if at all possible."

Um...can someone please tell Mr. Thompson that the Soviet Union has been non-existant since roughly, what, 1990?

Maybe he outta just go back to the Manhattan DA's office on Law & Order. At least there, he reads his scripts better than when he's running for president.

As any casual reader of the Palace knows, Uncle Polt LOVES the color purple, and I don't mean the Oprah movie. I mean the color that is PURPLE. I like all thing purple, and I even like to wear purple...not that I have that many purple things.

I do, however, have a purple t-shirt. And I have a pair of purple underwear. They're different shades of purple, but the point is, they're both purple! I kinda clash when I wear them together...but rarely does anyone see me in my underwear, and if they do, I'm not at all certain they'll be noticing how the two purples don't match. At least I HOPE they wouldn't be noticing.

At any rate, I give you this weeks' HNT from me: Polt's Purple Underclothes!

I broke the veto once again because I had to...

So, Bushie vetos expanding health insurance to kids, but by God, he wants those tax cuts to millionaires made permanent! Can't make sure poor kids have health care, got to make sure those millionaires can afford thier luxury yachts, and homes in the Carribean, and Jaguars, and such. Yes, that's MUCH more important. Bastard.

At least Republican Senator Grassley from Nebraska is talking about a override vote. I hope both houses of Congress do thier duty and protect the health of the poor instead of increasing the wealth of the wealthy.

Mandarin quotes on a wrought iron gate...

Well, kids, I got some bad news. I'm out of quotes. I am compiling a list of quotes for this year, but I don't want to start using that one until I'm done getting it together. So, starting January 1st we'll have quotes again. I don't know how many of you read them, but I love collecting them. I started way back in 10th grade (this would be like 22 years ago), as a project in English class. From then on, but more so recently, when I've read or heard something that strikes me as funny, witty, insightful or interesting, I jot it down and then add it to my list for that year. I have now, after two years, three months, and a few weeks, exhausted all the quotes I had.

What I'll put in place of the quote, is what I'm listening to when I'm posting. I used to do that, long time readers will recall, but my old computer caught a virus that December and died, and all my music was on there, so I didn't HAVE anything to listen to. but I've since put a lot of my music back on this computer, so I can go ahead and start doing that.

Still, below I give you, until January 1, 2008, the last quote ending post for Polt's Palace.

Oh black water, keep on rolling...

Can we all make a pact, here and now please. Let's not name anything more after water. I, for one, am sick of all the 'water' scandals. First there was "Watergate". Ten years ago we were in the midst of the trumped up "Whitewater" 'scandal'. And now, we have these problems in Iraq with this "Blackwater" group/company/thingee.

For those unaware of what I'm talking about, those that don't pay attention to current events, and those that only watch the Fox Noise Channel, here is the Wikipedia entry:

"Blackwater USA is a self-described private military company and security firm founded in 1997 by Erik Prince and Al Clark. It has been alternatively been referred to as a mercenary company by numerous sources in the international media. It is based in the U.S. state of North Carolina, where it operates a tactical training facility that it claims is the world's largest. The company trains more than 40,000 people a year, from all the military services and a variety of other agencies. The company markets itself as being "The most comprehensive professional military, law enforcement, security, peacekeeping, and stability operations company in the world".
Blackwater is currently the biggest of the
US State Department's three private security contractors. At least 90% of its revenue comes from government contracts, two-thirds of which are no-bid contracts. Missions conducted by Blackwater Security Consulting have raised significant controversy both through casualties suffered and inflicted by their employees."

Can't we just name something after dirt? A hotel after fire: The Firegate? A land deal after ice: Whitecold? And what's self-described as you can read above as just another way, over the last six years, for the Republican party to funnel public taxpayer dollars into a private company, run by, for, and of the Republican Party? I mean, that's what it IS isn't it?

God, I hope I live long enough to see this administration ensconced in history right where it belongs: below that of James Buchanan in competance and above that of Warren Harding in corruption.

Guess I'll buy me a football team (Part 4)...

So, the Dallas Cowboys are 4-0. For the first time since they last went to the Super Bowl. I am very much enjoying myself, but I refuse to look too far ahead. After all, it's only a quarter of the way to the season's end. The only thing we can say for SURE is that Dallas will lose no more than 12 games. But damn, they DO look good, putting up all those points.

This past week, Johnnie and I only disagreed on one game, and I won that one. So now we're 8-4, with him owing me $4 bucks. but as I said, it's still early. AND, since Dallas won, I'm still in the pool at work. Going into last weekend, we had 20 people left in it. Because of Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Chicago and San Diego losing, we lost half the players and are now down to 10. But this week's games look tough to choose, nothing jumping out at me. I gotta be careful, cause if I win, that $290 bucks would sure come in handy.

An utterance, information, don't mince words (Part 62)...

TMI Tuesday

1. Early bird or night owl? Night Owl, DEFINITELY! Much rather stay up to see the sunrise than try to wake up to see it.
2. If you could only be one, would you rather be smart or good looking? Gee, since I’m both now, this is a toughy. Seriously, I think I’d rather be good-looking. I mean, people forgive you all kinds of sins if you’re nice on the eyes. And you don’t see people lining up to fuck with Nobel Prize Winners, do ya? Also, if I’m not smart but good-looking, I won’t know it, I’ll just be dumb and happy. But if I’m smart and not good-looking, I’m gonna know that, and have to deal with the knowledge that I’m not good-looking. (Jeez, I didn’t know I’d sound THAT superficial)
3. Do you gossip? Whatever you heard, I didn’t say it! I do like to hear gossip from around work, but I don’t generally pass it on at work. That way, I don’t alienate anyone and get to hear all the juicy stuff from everyone.
4. On a scale of 1-10, how adventurous are you? (1 is lowest, 10 is highest) 3, maybe 2. I’m pretty comfortable, and I like being that way.
5. On a scale of 1-10, how good a kisser do you think you are? ( ditto ) Hmm, well I’m told I’m pretty good, but people might just be saying that. I guess if I wasn’t any good, they wouldn’t lie and say I was, they’d just stop kissing me. So I’ll go with an 8…maybe a 9? Definitely no lower than 7. We could ask Freddie for his opinion......
Bonus (as in optional):What do you consider the biggest turn on out of the following? a) lingerie b) movies c) toys d) role playing e) leather f) none of this does anything for me. Movies, my God, movies! I don’t own any lingerie, I have a handful of toys that get very little use, role playing to me is Dungeons& Dragons, leather smells and chafes, but I DO have my Wall O’Porn: a shelf encompassing one wall FULL to overflowing with pornos. Feel free to stop by and borrow one sometime.
