Two quotes:
1) White House Spokesperson Dana Perino said this last Monday:
"Reports about very innocent people being thrown into detention, where they could be held for years without any representation or charges, is distressing."
Is the White House finally commenting on the prisoners at Gitmo? Acknowledging teh "black prisons" we've shuttled prisoners to? How we've denied them all access to attornies?
Ah....nope. This is her comment on the situation in Myanmar with the military run government there cracking down on Buddhist monks. And she said it with a straight face. Without a hint of shame or irony.
2) Fred Thompson woke up during his run for the president and gave a radio interview over the weekend. Here is part of the transcript:
Henderson: "How, as president, would you deal with Iran?" Thompson: "...I'm afraid that the Soviet Union & China are not ever going to do anything that's going to hurt them that badly but we need to ratchet those up if at all possible."
Um...can someone please tell Mr. Thompson that the Soviet Union has been non-existant since roughly, what, 1990?
Maybe he outta just go back to the Manhattan DA's office on Law & Order. At least there, he reads his scripts better than when he's running for president.
