Did it all for the nookie, so you can take that cookie....

Last month, I participated in the Christmas In July Crafty Gift Exchange.  It was where we were assigned a person to give a gift to and whatever we sent them had to be made by us, not bought.  I loved the idea, but God knows I am not a crafty person.  But I thought perhaps I could make some cookies or treats for my recipient.  Course, I can't really cook.  So I said something to Mom.  And she was all excited to help.

So I went to her place on Sunday (as she's got all the cookie baking stuff there and I have...well, nothing to bake cookies with at my place), and we made the cookies.  Two batches of cookies were made, chocolate chip and snickerdoodles.  And then I packaged them up and mailed them off.

And yes, I DID do most of the work with it, cause it was my project.  But I knew not everyone would believe this to be true.  So during the process of making them, I had mom take pictures.  See below:

Everything set up and ready to start.

Rolling out the snickerdoodles.

Roll the snickerdoodles in the cinnamon.

Putting the chocolate chip dough on the tray.

Apron-clad and chocolate chip cookie doughed!

Packing up the cookies in the tin.

I tried some of the cookies while baking them, as you do, and can attest that they were pretty delicious.  And if you check out the POST on Cocky & Rude, you'll see the photo of what remained of my cookies.  As well as what everyone else sent and recieved.

BITS-N-PIECES

Just found out my neighbor and her daughter are moving. This makes me sad.  I mean, we weren't really close or anything, but this is the neighbor I talked to the most.  I know they're moving on to a better place (mainly a place that's not on the second floor with the main entrance up a set of outside stairs...which is bad, especially when it's icy or snowy), but it's still sad that I wont see them anymore.

Ah well, such is life.

UPDATE: Tonight, I spoke to her in the alley between our houses.  She told me where they were moving, its a nice area.  I shook her hand and told her it was nice being her neighbor.  And I told her I hope the new neighbors are as great neighbors as she was.

My cable remote just went on the fritz.  All the buttons on the right hand side no longer work.  Which means, I have no 3, 6, 9 buttons, nor the button that moves the guide forward in time (to check what's coming up).  So I called the cable company.  Recording said I'd have a 25-30 minute wait.  I hung up and called back, pushing the buttons to indicate I wanted to cancel my service...thinking that that would get me speedier service.  Recording said I had a 20-25 minute wait.  I hung up.  I got on their website, thinking I'd just post something to them telling them I needed a new remote.  Website was VERY un-user-friendly.  Gave up and called back. Recording said I had a 20-25 minute wait.  So I left it on speaker phone and went about doing other business.

I just KNEW they'd charge me something for a replacement.  And probably either make me drive 40 minutes to their office or have a cableguy bring it here, which means I'd have to sit here and wait for him to show up.  But the guy on the phone told me there would be no charge either way.  That floored me.   And then he said it might just be easier to mail it to me.  Which is what it turned out he's going to do.  Again, free of charge to me.

Course, when I get it, I'll have to program the damn thing....that oughtta be a blast.

Got a call today at work from my insurance company about the accident I was involved in back in November.  I had to pay the $500 deductable and had heard nothing about getting it back.  Was kinda torked about not hearing anything.  Well, it turns out my insurance company contacted hers, and have heard nothing back.  So they needed a sworn statement from me, which we took over the phone, so they can send it to arbitration.  *SIGH*  My car's already fixed, I just want my $500 back.
************************************
Work had been SO stressful the last two weeks, its crazy.  I've not been eating well, or much at all, and have lost some weight, which is a good thing, but it's a terrible way to lose weight.  And it was nowhere near enough weight that I lost either.  It's gotten better this week actually, and hopefully will continue to do so.

But seriously, I have no idea how people who stress all the time can even survive.  Just being this way for like ten days is enough.  If I had to live my whole life like this....well, I dont think I'd WANT to live life like this.
************************************
Got a potentially busy holiday weekend: Trip to Friscos with ALCMDPP on Saturday after work, a possible party on Sunday, a possible hookup with a previous beau on Monday, and another possible hookup Tuesday morning.  But who knows....I could end up spending my entire weekend on the couch watching Law & Order reruns.

Conversation has it's hold on me (Part 10)...

Conversations With Kris

Tonight after I got off work, Kris and I went to play some mini-golf.  When we finished (after losing one ball in watter, fighting our way through hordes of little irritating gnats and playing a hole twice cause I somehow forgot to write down one hole's scores), I had a score of 58, Kris had a score of 73.  But to be fair, it was only is second time ever playing mini-golf.  And he DID manage to get a hole in one.

Anyway, after we paid, and got our clubs, we had to chose a ball to play with and this conversation took place:

POLT: I'll be using the Purple Ball Of Victory!
KRIS: Hmm, guess I'll take the Blue Ball of....Sexual Frustration....

KRIS: ....yeah, well....maybe I'll choose the...Black Ball of....Death?
POLT: Good choice since you'll be..dying at the...end of the...game?
KRIS: ..........let just go play......

Don't think I can handle you, going channel to channel....

Over the last year, or so, I have bought (and borrowed) several TV series on DVD.  And not yet watched ANY of them.  I think it's time I started, but I am unsure of which one to start watching first.  That is where you, dear readers, come in.

Below I've listed the DVD sets that I have, over in the sidebar, I've put a small poll: tell me which one of these I should watch RIGHT NOW!

Downtown Abbey, Season 1

Game of Thrones, Season 1

St. Elsewhere, Season 1

Spartacus, Season 1

True Blood, Season 1

Also, in the comment you can TELL me why I should, or should not, watch a certain DVD set first.

C'mon people, get hopping...my television watching future is in your hands!

Finished with the old, here comes the new...

So yesterday, I completed it.  I finished the last book I had to read in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary reissue series.

I had wanted to read them in chronological order, but because of issue with delivery here, I read the 11th Doctor before the 9th and 10th.  But other than that, everything went well.  I started reading the first one June 16th.  I initially didn't want to read them all back to back, because I thought I may get tired and not finished them, so I read another book between 1st and 2nd and two different books between three and four.  But those other books were quite frankly, very short ones each. And even while reading them, I was anxious to get back to the Doctor Who books.  So starting with the 4th one, I just read them one right after the other.

My take on them?  Overall, a very good bunch of books.  My grading of them is as follows:

1st Doctor - B
2nd Doctor - B
3rd Doctor - C
4th Doctor - A
5th Doctor - B
6th Doctor - D
7th Doctor - C
8th Doctor - F
9th Doctor - B
10th Doctor - A
11th Doctor - A

My favorites, in order from most to least:

4th Doctor
11th Doctor
10th Doctor
1st Doctor
2nd Doctor
5th Doctor
9th Doctor
7th Doctor
3rd Doctor
6th Doctor
8th Doctor

The 4th was my favorite due to all the time shifts, how the Doctor and his companions kept going back in time over the span of two days and everyone else was moving forward.  So that people the Doctor had never met, already knew him, but knew him less the more he knew them.  Confusing?  A bit, but fascinating nonetheless.  And humorous too.

Least favorite was the 8th, although the 6th cam very close.  The 8th Doctor's book dealt with companions I had never heard of, and they all kept referencing things that happened in prior books that I had never read.  And the story itself was.....well, stupid.  I can't imagine there wasn't a better, self-contained book other than the one they chose, to use.  And the 6th wasn't much better:  a chunk of the book was taken up by a previous exploit by the 2nd Doctor, and most of the book could actually have been a biography of Winston Churchill.  The 6th Doctor had very little to do with it, I'm afraid.  And certainly almost nothing interesting.

At any rate, I'm glad I read them all, and in less then two months.  And now I can get back to reading other types of books....although I'm still jonesin' for some Doctor Who stuff.  So maybe I'll continue on my quest to read all the books since the reboot.  I only have two more 9th Doctor books to go and then I will have read all of his.

Never never on a Sunday....

Today, as are most Sundays, was a day for Mom and me.  We went to Chambersburg to eat lunch.  Mom had gone a few weeks ago with some friends of hers to a restaurant up there called Rosalie's Fabulous Grill.  And Fabulous is was!  As soon as we entered, the smell overtook me: wood-fired, oven fresh, baked bread.  Yummy.  Just smelling that made me want to come back again later.

The bread was delectable.  The salad, the pasta the meatballs were all amazing.  The spaghetti sauce, frankly, left something to be desired.  It was bland and relatively tasteless, unlike everything.  But mom said everything about her fettucini alfredo was perfect.  And for eye candy, there was a bus boy, early 20's, black, bubble butt, tats on his arms, cute as all get out.    So all in all, a great experience.  Can't wait to go back.

Afterwards, we went to Target, Lowe's and Wal-Mart, before heading home.  On the way, we passed The Twin Kiss, and stopped for an ice cream cone each.  And we sat on a bench under a tree, watching the stream bubble passed and the deer walk around their enclosure.  Oh, and chuckling at the kids running around and playing.

When we got back home, we decided to walk down to the Destination Arts thing again.  I had been there a few weeks ago with my friend Michelle, mom had never been there, but talked about wanting to go.  Also, when I had been there the first time, I saw this little mug that I liked the look of, but didn't buy, and then regretted it.  So i thought I'd go get that back as well.  Which I succeeded in doing.  See:

It's not as big as the mugs I generally like to use:

But it's purpley, and bulgy, and a bit misshaped and I think it's really cute.  Not sure what I'll use it for, but well that doesn't matter, cause I own it now. It's mine.

Anyway, mom and I walked around checking out the art, although she really was only interested in the artists.  If she knew who they were, then she checked out the painting.  If she didn't know them, she moved on.  So it didn't take very long to get through them all.  But it was fun to see check them out again.   And we found out they'll be changing the paintings in ten days with all new stuff.  So that'll be another reason to go back.

Following this, I came home, finished a book, did some laundry, putzed around online...ya know, a normal Sunday afternoon.  But it was a beautiful gorgeous day, weather wise.  And a good day overall.
