Green dreams, they fill my mind (Part 10)...

Green Super Hero History Month

Green Lantern I

DC Comics' Green Lantern I first appeared in All-American Comics #16 in July 1940.  Alan Scott was on a railroad engineer and on the train he was working, was hung a green lantern.  It was constructed from a magical meteor that feel to earth years previous.  After the train crashed, green flames from the lantern engulfed Scott, but didn't harm him.  It instructed him how to carve a ring from the magical substance and he used it to become the super hero Green Lantern.

Green Lantern I operated during the Second World War, primarily, but remained active, and magically younger than his years, well into the 1990's. He was a member of nearly every incarnation of the Justice Society Of America over the years. His ring allowed him to fly, walk through wall, blind people, hypnotize them, create rays of energy, and melt through metal, among other things.  However, the power of the ring had no effect of anything wooden.
