Green dreams, they fill my mind (Part 18)...

Green Super Hero History Month

J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter

DC Comics' Martian Manhunter first appeared in Detective Comics #255 in Nov. 1955.  J'onn J'onzz was a Martian scientist brought to the Earth by the transport ray of Dr. Saul Erdel.  The ray soon there after explodes, killing Dr. Erdel.  Trapped here, he decides to take on human form and observe humans, which he does in the form of Police Detective John Jones.

He was one of the founding members of The Justice League Of America.  Despite a long absence from the original group, The Martian Manhunter has been a member of every single incarnation of the JLA, usually serving as it's heart and core.  (except, for the fake JLA that resulted from the abomination of the New52 a few year ago...but the less said about this, the better).

Like all Martians, The Martian Manhunter has a myriad of abilities: Superhuman strength, toughness, flight, and regeneration and optic blasts, powers all shared by Superman.  But unlike Superman, The Manhunter can also shape shift, turn invisible and intangible and has telepathy and teleknesis.  Also, like all Martians, and unlike Superman, The Manhunter is particularly vulnerable to fire.
