Green Lantern IV
DC Comics' Green Lantern IV first appeared in Green Lantern Vol 2 #87 (Dec 71/Jan 72). John Stewart was a Vet and architect. When Green Lantern II's (Hal Jordan) backup Green Lantern III (Guy Gardner) was injured seriously in a car accident, the Guardians (who are responsible for the Green Lantern Corps) needed a new backup. They chose John Stewart.
He was a reserve Green Lantern for several years before becoming active on a more regular level. He's worked with the Justice League Of America several times.
His ring could do the same things the rings of Green Lantern II and Green Lantern III (see below) could do.
