Start it all again, till death do us part (Part 2)
DEAD OR ALIVE!
Dont forget, don't cheat and look for yourself, just give me your best guess.
In honor of Gay Pride this week, today's celebrity is...
Harvey Fierstein
Harvey was born in 1952. He's received numerous Tony Awards for his acting and writing on Broadway. He's starred in the movie of his own play, Torch Song Trilogy. You may have also seen him in other movies like "Independence Day" or "Mrs. Doubtfire",
So tell me, Harvey Feirstein, Dead Or Alive?

Call me in three months time, I'll be fine (Part 14)...
Thursday Three
1). Grandma being discharged from the hospital.
Yep, she went home Wednesday. It's amazing, when I saw her on Saturday, I figured her heart was ready to give out and that she'd never leave the hospital alive. And now, less than a week later, she's home. (Incidentally, that's a generic photo, it does not depict Grandma Polt nor anything she left the hospital with).
2) Afternoon naps.
In my younger years, like my 20s, I'd regularly fall asleep on the sofa for 15-20 minutes with the TV on, wake up with my second wind and enjoy the evening. I haven't been doing that, for years really. In the last month, though, I've inadvertently been doing it. And it IS truly a glorious experience. Perhaps my lack of afternoon naps explains why I've been going to bed before 10 so many times since I've moved into the house. Maybe that pattern will change.
3) Gay sex.
Not that I've had any in the last week (and believe me, I'm more unhappy about that than you are surprised about it), but the thought of it always makes my week better.
So what made your week better this week?

Talking bout a revolution....
Today is the 43rd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, and thus the Gay Rights Movements. And it was started by the drag queens, hustlers, homeless gay kids and effeminate men that were even then, on the fringes of gay society (such that it was at the time). It wasn't the 'respectable' gays that started the whole thing. So cheers to the rebels! They're the grandparents of the current gay marriage movement.
I think this weekend, I may watch "The Boys In The Band" and "The Band Played On" just to honor the past and remember where we, as gay people, have come from and how far we've come. Maybe even "Milk" too, what the hell?
I'm not gonna go into a whole bunch of history here, I've done that in years past, and honestly, if you're interested you can read up on it many places on teh Interwebs. But tonight, I'll hoist a beer or glass of Asti or wine in honor of those brave, courageous outcasts from 4 decades ago who had HAD it with mistreatment, stood up and said NO MORE, and enabled me, 43 years later, to write this without fear of losing my job, getting arrested, or thrown in a mental institution.

Bits-N-Pieces
So what's been going on in my life?
Sunday mom and I made a trip to my uncles house cause I wanted to see their new additions. They're Bichon Frise (think small, fluffy white poodley dog) had puppies. She had four, two lived and they're selling those. But the puppies are only a few weeks old, they're eyes aren't even open yet. Here they are:
They're sleeping together. That's really all they did, even most of the time that I held them.
This is Lea (she's got the reddish nose).
This is Mia (she's got the black nose).
ADORABLE, no?
**************************
I've spent about twenty minutes of the last three days de-weeding the front flower bed. Those jaggey kind of weeds (which I THINK are some kind of thistle...but really what do I know of horticulture?) have spread all through it and grown like...well, like weeds. And I've been neglecting getting them out. But now they're threatening to overwhelm the flowers. So I've got to get them out.
I thought I might be able to get it all de-weeded in like a half hour. Oh but NO was *I* mistaken. Not only are there more weeds than I thought, and not only are they harder to get out than I thought, but my hips, thighs, knees and calves can only take the bending and squatting for about 15 minutes till they decide not to cooperate anymore. And I'm done.
But I think I have about 75-80% of the flower bed de-weeded now, so one more time and that should do it. I hope!
Here's some pics of the garden, taken almost every Monday for the last several weeks:
I missed two photos in between the third and fourth one. That's why the flowers are doing better and there's not many jaggey weeds things (like I've been complaining about) in the last one. The yellow flowering plants, the purple plant in the back and the tree where there before I moved in, I have no idea what they are.
**************************
Yesterday, deweeding, despite having gloves on, I got a blister on my thumb. Damn big thing too. It's gonna really hurt as time goes on. I'm so delicate. I've spared you all a pic of that.
**************************
It's been unbelievably, gloriously beautiful weather-wise, lately! Temps in the low 80's, no humidity to speak of, clear or just a few clouds in the sky, a cooling breeze! Amazing. Course, they're saying this weekend's supposed to be back up into the high 90's with comparable humidity, ugh. So I've been trying to enjoy it now while I can.

Update on Grandma Polt. Yes, her heart is only working at 30%, but they discovered she also has a bloodclot in her lung. Which accounts for her troubled breathing, and strain on her heart. They've given her meds to break it up and are monitoring her. Today, they put a 'filter' in her leg to prevent any other clots from getting up out of her leg. Another surgery. That poor old woman, she's quite the trooper. And since this is the problem and not just her heart, once it gets cleared up, her heart may improve and she may actually be able to leave. So any thoughts, prayers or mojo you guys sent this way is greatly appreciated!

Just found out something today about Johnnie (remember him? My young friend {well hell, he's like 30 now, and living in Chicago} who's a PhD and who I visited in Bradford PA on the way to Toronto when he was in college there? Cute lil twinkie boy? Anyway, on Facebook he goes by Jack, and I questioned him about it, and apparently, that's what he goes by now. Like in real life. Like all the time!
My Johnnie's not a Johnnie anymore! He's a Jack! Pfft, nope sorry, Jack is too....big...old, MATURE and name for my Lil' Johnnie! I don't care whatever anyone else calls him, he'll ALWAYS be Johnnie to me!

FDot texted me this photo yesterday. He was on a dinner cruise around Manhattan.
Is that not an inCREDible photo? Great shot! Thanks FDot!

Grandma loved a sailor who sailed the frozen sea...
Yesterday, they admitted Grandma Polt to the hospital. Mom called me to tell me this in the morning, saying she was having a lot of trouble breathing. Then, right before I got off work, mom called back to say she didnt know what my plans were for that evening, but I might want to just go see grandma when i got off work.
I was expecting the worst, and she wasn't all that great still having to expend a lot of energy to breathe, but she was doing better than I expected. Still, honestly, I don't expect her to recover from this.
She's 88. So far this year, she's had a minor stroke, pneumonia, a bladder infection, and had to have a pace-maker put in. And from that operation, she's never fully recovered. And she's been having trouble catching her breath, especially with it being so hot and humid. It's air conditioned where she lives but any time she has to leave, it's rough.
She looked so frail and delicate in the bed. They were giving her oxygen, which helped. When I got there, no one else was there, so she and I talked a bit, and she seems to have come to the same conclusion I did about recovery. She was talking about how the problem is her heart, and how she's lived a long good life. And how she's raised four kids and had them raise 7 grandkids, and how they're raising 5 great-grandkids, and how, on the whole, we've not turned out all that bad. And she said some of this with tears in her eyes. It just seemed obvious to me she knows she's not gonna fully recover.
She may improve enough to be discharged, but I don't know how recovered she'd be. She won't have walked for several days and she was a bit unsteady on her feet to begin with, and she'll be on oxygen, and she may have to go to a home for rehab.
But regardless, it seems pretty clear to me she's nearing the end. I just hope that for whatever time she has left, she doesn't experience much pain or anguish.
And now, I think I might just go out to see her again. If not today, for sure tomorrow.
