Without you i'm just a carnival bum...

This past week, the carnival came to town. I've written about this before here, here, and here. It's something of a tradition that Phoenix and I go down to it one night and get a burger and fries. This year, Phoenix had surgery a few weeks ago, so we couldn't go. I thought I'd miss it this year. Not the carnival itself, mind you. The carnival itself is rather cringe-inducing. But the going to get a burger and fries thing.

Then, Thursday, I went to mom's after work to eat some corn on the cob she had gotten. That's all mom had planned for us to eat, so I thought I'd go down myself and just get a burger and fries myself. And then mom said she wanted me to get her some fries. I asked to accompany me, and so she did. And when we got there, she said she wanted a burger as well. So I bought us those (since she was taking care of the corn herself). This year, unlike the last couple with Phoenix, it wasn't hot, sticky and humid. this year, the whole week the temperatures were only like in the 80's. Very very comfortable August weather. And like non-existant humidity. I love this weather.

Anyway, I had my camera with me (of course), and I snapped this while we waited in line.

It's the back of Mama Polt, and the panorama of the carnival itself. Such that it is.

POLT Listening to the Olympics

No matter how many friends you have, you can always attract a gathering with food and good beer.

Advertisements are here for rapid persuasion...

Watching the Olympics over the last few days, I've noticed two politcal ads playing repeatedly. Here they are:

Now, you tell me, which is the better ad? An ad filling with positivity and hope and telling us all the great things we can do, or an ad telling how bad the other guy is (and not entirely accurately either. See the post below).

Seriously, do we want a guy in the White House who's major campaign theme so far has been, "Hey, the other guy is worse than me!"

And I have to wonder, does McSame really have enough money to waste putting these things on during the Olympics? Wouldn't that money be better spent in, say, Virginia, or Indiana, or Ohio, or Florida? Mind you, I hope he spends a lot more money running ads during the Olympics, but I can't believe his campaign is squandering their cash like this..especially on such negaitivity.

POLT Listening to the Olympics

My proof that homosexuality is not a choice? A question for my straight male readers: Is there anything I could do or say or write that would convince you to willingly, happily, eagerly, anxiously, deliriously, lustfully put my dick in your mouth and leave it there until I had an orgasm? I rest my case. - Dan Savage, Skipping Towards Gomorrah

Only three things that's for sure, taxes, death and trouble....

Okay, people, when you hear McSame and his people tell you that Obama is going to raise their taxes, don't believe the lies. Here's a chart from the Washington Post, done by the Tax Policy Center that shows the breakdown of the tax plans.

Also, following is commentary written by the Post:
According to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are both proposing tax plans that would result in cuts for most American families. Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy. For the approximately 147,000 families that make up the top 0.1 percent of the income scale, the difference between the two plans is stark. While McCain offers a $269,364 tax cut, Obama would raise their taxes, on average, by $701,885 - a difference of nearly $1 million.

So, the bottom line, to me, is this: McSame wants to give the largest tax breaks to the richest 1% of Americans and give almost none to the lowest 60% of American wage earners. Obama's, on the other hand, would increase taxes on the richest 1% and give tax breaks to the lowest 60% of wage earners. In MY tax bracket, under Obama, I'd pay 3X's LESS in taxes than I would under McCains.

I suppose, if you're the richest of the rich, then I guess you should be afraid of Obama and his tax plan. But if you make less than $111,000 a year, it's against your financial interest to vote for McSame.

Of course, if people care more about Obama being "arrogant" and "elitest", or about flag lapel pins, or the candidates preachers than they do about their own taxes, then things could be bad. But if people care more about those irrelevant issues than they do about their own taxes, then they deserve what they're gonna get.

No one is to smart, in affairs of the heart...

As some of you may know, from last summer until he dropped out of the race, John Edwards was my guy for president. I guess now it's a good thing he didn't get the nomination.

Me, I'm very disappointed. And I'm upset at him, NOT for the affair itself, cause frankly, I can very easily understand doing stupid things for sex. But I'm upset that because he did it, now he'll be dismissed and the issues that he was championing, issues that I firmly believed in, will be dimissed as well.

I'm just upset and disappointed at the lost opportunity.

Maybe, though, Edwards should change his party to Republican, because then you can proposition men in airport restrooms (Sen. Larry Craig), and hire high paid prostitutes (Sen. Larry Vitter) and give your wife divorce papers while she's in the hospital seriously ill(Newt Gingrich) and summarily divorce your wife that stood by you for years while you were a prisoner of war so you can marry a younger, prettier, richer wife (John McCain) and you can STILL retain all the politcal power and prestige you had before you did all that. You can still remain in the Senate, or become Speaker of the House, or, hell, even run for president, if you want to. That's a pretty good gig, if I say so myself.

Once more, it's time for...

Earlier this week, I had a visit with my doctor. I didn't realize it until he told me, but he had me lined up for a physical. After the EEG, he told me there was a slight abnormality, nothing that he was too worked up about, but he referred me to another place to get a 'nuclear' stress test done. Oh joy of joys. On the upside, I had lost 7 pounds since my visit the end of June, my cholestrol was down to 238 from 320-something, and my blood sugar had dropped 30 points. All very good news there.

Before he came into the exam room, though, I pulled out my trusty camera (what? Doesn't everyone take a camera with them on a doctor visit?) and took a photo.

That's me, relaxing comfortably, pre-exam.

Take it to the runway (Part 4)...

It's time once more for this week's.....

A Project Runway Rundown, from a gay's and a straight man's perspective.

This week Dave S. had a bit of real life intrude on his fun (I hate when that happens), so we'll be doing things a bit differently. I'll post my comments first, followed by his. No commenting on each others stuff. Maybe we'll go back to that next week, who knows? But without further ado, let's get this party started!

Tonight's episode: Rings Of Glory.

Polt's comments:

I've got just a bunch of random comments this week:
- Blayne with his hood up reminds of Cornholio from Beavis & Butthead.
- This'll be three field trips in four episodes! They keep this up, they'll run outta places to go.
- This week, no Blayne "liciousness", however, it only took us three minutes into the episode to hear Seude refer to himself in the third person. Surprisingly, when commenting on his garment on the runway, he actually said "I" instead of "Suede". He needs to practice that.
- APOLLO OHNO!!! Oh my GOD, he is SO cute! I could just eat him up. Seriously.
- Women's wear only? Oh BOOOOO!
- Blayne says, "Heck yeah I'm going for the gold!". But does he mean a medal or his skin?
- Daniel's doing a cocktail dress? For athletes? Oh no, no, noooo....
- Terri's doing a corset? Oh no....
- Keith was a gymnast???? Bet he's pretty limber...wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more!
- Keith shown shirtless again. Sweet. I am seriously digging him more and more each week.
- Sideview, silhouetted view of Jerell in just boxer-briefs....nice basket! (you just KNOW the camera men on this show are gay!)

- Comment on a commercial: Laura from last season is NOT a super-mom. And that outfit...I don't think even Krypto the Super-dog would wear that.

Quotes from the show:
- I could design a great straightjacket. - Kelli
- I'm a true cowgirl. I like leatha and I like fur. - Stella
- Don't worry about me, worry about the plaid in your hand. - Korto
- "You're using black?" "Is that bad?" - Stellla
- Black is cool. - Stella
- "Looking a little Sgt. Peppers." "I don't even know what that is." "Oh, GOD...youth." - Tim Gunn
- This could look very Lucy Ricardo. - Tim Gunn

Onto the competition. My top three were, in no particular order, Leanne, Terri and Joe. My bottom three were Jennifer, Jerell, and Daniel, although Kenley wasn't far behind. I think Leanna clearly, for the second week in a row, had the best outfit. And I think Jennifer clearly, for the second week in a row, had the worst outfit.

However, of the options the judges gave us, I think Joe was best and should win, and Jennifer, of course should lose. Thankfully, she did. She never impressed me. Korto was the winner? Hmmm, okay, well I wasn't impressed with hers, but I'm not upset over it.

Dave S.'s comments:

Oh, the drama! Daniel rethreading Joe's machine! Keith "stealing" Terri's fabric! Oh the humanity! They're still stretching. But making fun of Kenley's laugh was awesome. I'm liking her less and less. Beautiful, but kinda full of herself.

Okay, Jarell, you simply can't wear that underwear anymore. No one should be wearing that underwear. Please stop before I go blind. And Terri's from my city! How did I miss that before?! I still don't like her.

Blayne: You'er white guy. Don't go trying to be something you're not.

Keith's got some kickass tattoos. Too bad his design this week wasn't so kickass.

Best lines:"I just want to go tanning...please." - Blayne
"Immunity is really important." - Stella (really? ya think?)

Okay, Joe was the clear winner in my book. Super sporty, sexy and sleek. Loved it. The "USA" was a great touch. Korto was okay, definitely top three material, but not the winner in my opinion. That vest thing was flat and had no shape. Put that puppy over boobs a mere cup size larger than that model and it would've puffed out like a napkin over a Jiffy Pop. I also felt it was a bit too white. Terri's outfit was a mess. That scarf looked more like sliced sushi than anything Olympic and the mix of textures was more distracting than appealing. I didn't get what was sporty about it at all. It looked more pantsuit than Olympic ceremony. Absolutely not top three. Leanne deserved to be there (not only because she's hot). (well, okay, maybe because she's hot)

For the bottom three: Jerell's had nothing athletic about it at all. And certainly not anything American. I didn't get the hat at all. People are looking down from stadium seating -- if the athletes wear a hat that large, nobody's going to see their faces (or their entire upper body fro that matter). And Daniel. Dan Dan Dan. Good lord, what travesty was that model wearing? Even as a non-Olympic challenge it was awful. Jennifer saved your ass this week. And speaking of Jennifer: That was not even an answer to the challenge. It was old looking and not modern sport at all. The judges got it right on this one. Even though I feel Daniel's outfit was much much worse, Jennifer has consistently lacked excitement in her designs. She's stuck in a rut and can't seem to pull herself out. Daniel on the other hand, has shown more potential than that Halloween USA costume that he concocted this week.

So my choice for winner: Joe!
And my choice for loser: Jennifer!

Next week: Brooke Shields, South Beach, sweet potatos, Daniel's impeccible taste, and more of Kenley's laughing.

Flip-flops?, i'm starting to panic...

Obama's comprehensive energy plan included several different things, including telling people to make sure their tires were inflated and their engines properly tuned.

McSame and the Republican latched onto just the tire inflation part of it, and mocked him over the last few days, saying that inflating your tires won't help the energy crisis. In actuality, proper tire inflation to decrease energy consumption and thus reduce demand is promoted by NASCAR, AAA, and even Bushie's own Department of Transportation. It's truly seems like what Obama said yesterday, "Now two points, one, they know they're lying about what my energy plan is, but the other thing is they're making fun of a step that every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by 3 to 4 percent. It's like these guys take pride in being ignorant."

Now, in addition to NASCAR, AAA, FDOT, and Obama someone else has joined the voices for tire inflation: John McCain! Last night, he said that he thinks tire inflation is a good thing. He's now agreeing with what he mocked just a few days ago!

Where is the media? Obama says, as part of larger comprehensive energy reform plan, he would support off shore drilling, and suddenly, the media's all over him for flip-flopping. But McSame is now for tire inflation, when just two days ago, he was against it, mocked it, and repeated it numerous time, and yet no one, NO ONE, in the media has called hima flip flopper?

And Obama is the one getting overly favorable media coverage? Only in the minds of far right wingnuts. Course, it's nice to know there's something in their minds after all.

And yet, they've discharged 300 gay Arabic translators due to the moronic "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

By my calculation, that's 45,000,000 dollars in just bonuses that's we'll have to spend to cover the 300 we discharged.

Why are we paying people to stay who don't want to, but yet dismissing people who want to stay?

Are we really saying that our military, our administration, our national policy is that we're MORE afraid of gay Americans in the military than we are of Middle Eastern terrorists.

TMI Tuesdays

The Romance edition.

1. What is your definition of romantic? Candlelight, soft music, bubbly champagne, rose petals leading the way to the bed.
2. Would you consider yourself to be romantic? I CAN be….but usually I’m just too horny to try.
3. Is your significant other romantic? I don’t currently have a SO, but the last one really wasn’t. Not his fault though, I mean he was only 19, so I didn't expect much.
4. Have you ever chastised a SO for not being romantic enough or too romantic? Nah. If I don’t like what they’re doing, there’s way to get them to change without chastising them.
5. What do you consider a grand romantic gesture? Have you ever been the recipient or giver of one? Something sweet for no reason is a romantic gesture. Once, with the last girl I was dating, we were at a party, and a slow song, "Here In Heaven" I think, and Eric Clapton song, came on. She wanted to dance. I was a bit drunk, and didn’t want to so we didn’t. I felt guilty about it when I sobered up. So two days later, I went out and bought the single on cassette, took my little tape player to her work, and set it up in the break room. I had a co-worker get her to come back to the break room, and then when she got there, I turned the music on and asked her to dance. And so we did. To that song. In the break room of her work. While three co-workers watched. When the song ended, she had tears in her eyes.
6. If you have done something romantic to get laid, did it work? If not, why and how did that affect your romantic tendencies in the past. I don’t think I’ve ever done that. I mean, most of the time, when I want to get laid, I can just find a guy who feels the same way and we do it. Romance not necessary. Hell, sometimes, exchanging names isn’t even necessary.
7. What is the most romantic thing you have ever done? Had done for you? See #5, I think for the most I’ve ever done. Had done for me? Well, Freddie did surprise me one weekend and came down without telling me. When I got home from work Satruday, he was waiting on the couch, wearing nothing but a smile. I guess that counts as romance.

My last blogpoll ended a few days ago, and I wanted to thank all 24 people for voting in it. The results show that Monday's Hot Shirtless Guy Photos is the most popular weekly feature. It's my favorite too, and I kinda thought it would win.

The losers were TMI Tuesdays and Wednesday Weekly White Boy Dance, which both garnered exactly zero votes. I love TMI Tuesdays, you all know how much I love talking about myself. The Weekly White Boy Dance...yeah, that one's a bit boring for me even. I mean, Stephen doesn't alwasy post videos each week...and he has yet to do even one without a shirt (which I'm certain would raise the viewership). But it's his baby, so however he wants to do it, is the way it should be done. But I don't have to repost it.

I wasn't really intending on getting rid of ANY feature...but since I'm not overly thrilled with it, since you guys aren't either, and since I already have another Wednesday feature, I think I'm gonna do it.

This week, after what will be 45 posts, I'll be retiring Wednesdays Weekly White Boy Dance. Stop by Wednesday and get your last and final one.

Just one a day, and maybe still the ten I usually do on Mondays. Maybe I'll even make a poll of this and see what you guys think about me doing that.

And yeah, so that's what I just did, made a poll to that effect! So don't forget to go vote! If I want the Palace to be anything, its interactive! (well, no, actually I really don't, but it sounds nice, doesn't it?)

They were all going to stay in one three room suite. With one bathroom. Mom said no way, she got her own effiency on the first floor of the hotel and would be staying there.

Her brother and his wife are down there as well. They'll be returning home Tuesday and mom will come with them while the rest of the clan stays until next Saturday.

I love my family...some more than others. And this particular branch of the family, I don't mind hanging out with occasionally. Like at Christmas, and Easter, and Thanksgiving, and weddings and funerals and such. But only for like a few hours at a time. To spend four days with them....that would be torture for me, I think. Thankfully, I wasn't included in the planning for the trip.

But since I'm staying here, I have to take care of mom's dog Angel aka The Poopinator. Mom made up a schedule: The Poopinator will have to be let out to do her business at 7:00am, noon, 5:00pm and 10:00pm. I'm to do it all, except when I'm at work, when the neighbor lady will take care of it. Nonetheless, I get EVERY morning and every evening. And we all know how much I HATE mornings.

Nonetheless, somehow, this morning at 6:45, I got my ass up outta bed, and got dressed and got over there and let her out by 7:00. Afterwards, I went to McDonald's to get some breakfast, and I brought it back there and ate it there. Then I read the paper with Angel sitting on my lap.

I spent also a good portion of the morning, say 8:30 or so to 11:30 sleeping in mom's bed with Angel in with me. And since it was almost noon, I just took her out again. That's one way to not mess up her schedule.

She's been doing well. Last night when I was over there for a few hours, she did set on the back of the sofa and look out the window for about a half hour, I assume, looking for mom to come back. But today, I was over twice, and she did fine. And she's not peed nor pooped inside as she has done before. And she has eaten, which before she sometimes refused to do for the first day or two. So it looks like, hopefully, this will be an Angel-drama-free vacation for mom.

Superman Sundays

What's NOT to like about a hot guy with a dark, almost branded-looking, Superman S tattoo on his shoulder? I just can't tell which version I like best.

A) In shorts.

B) In a jock.

C) In nothing.

Frankly, I'm kinda having a difficult time even noticing the tat, so I think I'll just say I like that all the same amount. Which is a LOT!

Sonya was disappointed to discover Gymnastic Paint-Balling was denied
And would not be featuring in the Olympics.
Sonya felt it was tougher than both sports,
Because doing a cartwheel in a protection vest took a LOT of skill.
Maybe in four years she'd be able to compete.
