I'm hiding from the sun, waiting for a visitor...

Okay, so ‘V’. I’ve given it two episodes and I gotta say I am underwhelmed. The best things about it at Tyler’s stunning blue eyes, bangs that hand over them and his adorable smirk. Oh, and the black guy…ALL of him. Other than that….total yawnfest.

Seriously. Where’s the subversion? Where’s the gradual realization that things just aren’t what they seem? Where’s the thinly veiled analogies to the Jews in Nazi Germany? And where the hell is the awesome rising in intensity theme music, heard in all its awesomenessity right HERE, (or even the more militaristic theme from the Second Miniseries)?

I’ll also grant that both female leads, Erica and Anna are attractive, with Anna having the feel of a slimy sneaky side hidden just underneath her skin (no pun intended).

But in general, the characters, even the undoubtedly attractive ones, are totally unrealistic. They're actions make no sense to me. However, they DO seem all written entirely straight out of the Hollywood playbook. The dialogue, characters and situations are unoriginal (even for a remake) and the special effects so far have been lackluster and underused.

Some ridiculous situations so far:
1) Lady turns photo rightside up, a card falls out, boyfriend gives flimsy excuse about knowing him, lady never questions how it got there or how the photo was turned upside down
2) FBI Agent goes to scene of disappeared partner's car, and jumps inside grabbing her ID and gun left there...and nothing is said by any of the other agents about her disturbing a crime scene
3) big ship appears over the skies in NY, people running all over hither and yon in a panic, and yet somehow, mom makes it into downtown Manhattan, in an hour, and right up the cordons despite what would assumed to be a huge amount of traffic going both ways
3a) and somehow, once she reaches the cordons and 'sneaks' her way inside, just feet away from her, in the throng of bystanders, is her son.
3b) and man who was in downtown area somehow manages to get off the island to his girlfriend's place, despite all the presumed traffic
4) at super-secret resistance meeting, lady shown photo of guy, and she says guy is 'terrorist'. yet no one there flinches. her knowing that would kinda mean she has some sort of knowledge about terrorists, which usually are the authorities...and one wouldn't want the authorities at a top-secret resistance meeting
5) reporters 'bagdering' Anna and somehow, the Scott Wold character just happens to be at the front of the group...without his microphone present, tells the reporters to not be so mean to Anna...and they all shut up listen to him!
6) the visitors don't yet have diplomatic relations with USA, but somehow they managed to grab a large building in the prime real estate market of Manhattan and convert it into a 'base' or something for them all to hang out at.
7) after Tyler punches a protester, the other protestors hold the assaulted one back, instead of, like, all ganging up on him and beating the crap outta Tyler. Obviously, as they were presented, they were not 'civil disobedience' peaceful protestors.
8) an FBI supervisor finds one of his agents lied to him about the disappearance of her partner, and was in fact at the scene of his disappearance, and doesnt discipline her...in fact, allows her to carry on as if nothing's happened.

I really wanted this series to work. I was really hoping they'd do justice to and improve upon the original V's. It's clear to me now they're not. I will however continue to watch the show, just to see if it stumbles on as is, maybe somehow inproves, or shows more of the black guy in his underwear. Or possibly shows Tyler as such.

Nathan, hold on, i got something to say...

My first real boyfriend was Nathan. We met in October 1993, the night that daylights savings ended. I remember that because we had an extra hour that night to get to know each other.

I was 25, he was a year or two older. We met at the local (in fact only) gay bar. I remember I was on the dance floor in the hot, sweaty gyrating mass of humanity gathered there, and I saw this really hot guy dancing off near the side. I kept him in sight even when I left the dance floor to get a beer from the bar. And as I drank it, he came over towards me, another guy with him. They introduced themselves we talked a bit before the guy I noticed first left, leaving me with his friend, who was Nathan.

Nathen was about 5'9 or so, and lean. He had blonde very curly hair that he wore long in the style of the time. He also had some acne scars, but they weren't a deal breaker. Nathan wasn't as cute as his friend, the guy I saw first. But unlike his friend, Nathan was interested in me. So we spent the remainder of the long night talking, drinking, toughing hands, arms, etc, and kissing.

Nathan lived about an hour's drive away from me. And he didn't have either a car or a license. This really wasn't a big deal, though, cause I was still living at home, so it's not like we could have done anything here anyway.

He had a roommate that had his own bedroom. His roommate was straight and not at all interested in meeting me. I don't think we ever did meet, other than in passing, he was frequently away at his girlfriend's place. That was a little strange. Also, when I took a shower there for the first time, i asked about a washcloth. he said they didn't have any, just towels. Which, since I had grown up with washcloths, struck as entirely strange. Inronically, now, I don't use washclothes either. But I digress....

Nathan was a recovering alcoholic, and he wanted me to go with him to one of his AA meetings. I did. We got to the church and went in and there was probably twenty or so people there. Not everyone talked, so I didn't feel like I stood out, but I wasn't terribly comfortable. I felt like an intruder, a voyeur. I mean, I wasn't alcoholic, and here these people were pouring their hearts out, to the affirmations of others who could understand what they were saying. But I couldn't. It was awkward, but i tried not to let on to Nathan, I just tried to be supportive.

After the meeting, we went to a Chinese restaurant where some of his friends were getting together. There was perhaps ten of us there. Everyone was very friendly, welcoming, and accepting. Nathan sat on one side of me and the woman on the other side asked questions of me all night. Not like an inquisition, but just because she seemed genuinely curious about Nathan's boyfriend. It was clear she cared deeply about him. In fact, it was clear they all did, and seemed excited for him that he was dating someone, and that I wasn't dodgey or anything.

Sex between us was, surprisingly, not a priority. We did not have sex every time we were together. I wanted to, but didn't want to push the issue, and he didn't bring it up that much. Or when I did bring it up, he would say he jsut wanted to cuddle. And since he was a damn good cuddler, I didn't mind.

I went to his apartment for New Years Eve 1993. He had two friends over, and we drank and had pizza and had a good time. After they left, we went to bed, got naked, and cuddled a bit. Then he said he had something he wanted to show me, and left the room. I was a bit nervous because I didn't know what he was going to show me, but I was excited as well, because I figured it was sexual. And I was more excited than I was nervous.

Until he walked back in the room. Wearing a diaper. And sucking on a pacifier. No, seriously, he did. Stop laughing, cause this isn't a comedy bit. I was truly shocked and disturbed. It was 1993, remember, the Interwebs were, no pun intended, in it's infancy. You couldn't just pop online and see or read about any kind of fetish you could imagine.

I had never heard of adults wearing diapers for sexual purposes, and frankly, it freaked me the hell out. But he crawled into bed and on top of me and was snuggling up against me, telling me (after removing the pacifier obviously) how understanding I was and how great it was that I didn't like scream at him and run out of the room. Although, honestly, that thought had crossed my mind.

But I liked Nathan. Did I love him? No, but I cared for him. And I could see that this took a lot for him to reveal to me, and I really did want to be understanding and supporting. I was calm, but on the inside, I was freaking out. If this is what he was into sexually, well, it was boggling my mind how we'd go about having sex. I was NOT wiping his ass and changing his diaper. And this explained why he wasn't really into the sex we did have.

Although that night, at that time, he was up, ready, and raring to go. I said the only thing I could think of using, the flimsy excuse that I had had too much to drink, and had a headache and was very tired. Shortly thereafter, we went to sleep. Or rather, he did. I stayed awake more of the night, trying to figure this out. It took all I had not to attempt to sneak out. But I did care for him, and wanted to be with him, and date him, I mean, I was having fun with him.

But after I got home the next day, well, I still couldn't come to terms with it. We talked on the phone several times after that, but I never saw him again. And before the end of January, we were officially seperated. I never made it official or anything, I just stopped answering his calls, or when I did, made excuses to hang up. And after about ten days of this, I think he finally picked up on it, and stopped calling.

I still feel bad sometimes about how I cowardly ended it, that I couldn't just man up and tell him I wasnted it over. But I just could NOT wrap my head around him wanting to wear a diaper. And that is how my first relationship ended. Not an auspicious beginning, eh?

1. I lost my virginity at 18, in the back of a car, on prom night. Where and when did you lose yours? We've had this question before, and my answer is still quite ambiguous. I've been fooling around with my peers since I was in grade school, so I don't remember the exact time I lost my virginity, but it was young.
2. I think my ass is my best sexual feature. What is yours? Physically, I guess maybe my eyes? My height did seem to suprise some people, but I hope in a good way.
3. A recurring theme in my fantasies is being slammed up against the wall. Do you have a recurring fantasy or a theme to your fantasies? Yes, yes, I do, but I generally like to keep that between me and the person helping me act it out, so unless you're offering....
4. I love watching guys masturbate. Do you enjoy watching others (a partner or a stranger) masturbate? Oh hell yeah! Strangers, partners, multiple strangers at the same time, multiple partners at the same time, it's all good.
5. I hate when guys are quiet in bed. I like to hear you moaning as you cum. Do you like you partners quiet? Are you quiet? It depends on how worked up I am, but generally, I'm not quiet. And I don't like a chatterbox (there's other things I want you doing with your mouth), but I do like some noises and such from my partner.
6. I love playing with nipples. Do you having your nipples played with? Yes, please.
7. My ‘number’ is between 15 and 25. What is your 'number'? Um, is this my favorite number, or the number of people I've been with, or the number of people I've been with at once, or the number of people I've been with in one day? Regardless, the answer to all those questions is more than 2.

Just saw my first Christmas tv commerical for Overstock.com. Arghhhhh. Too soon, TOO soon! I hate Overstock.com now.
***********************************
In the last few weeks, and I was a bit concerned because they hadn't gotten to me yet. And then today, I came home from work and I had three packages waiting for me! I got some Christmas cards I ordered (and which some of you may or may not be seeing sometime soon), a batch of address lables with my new address on it, and the last two seasons of Queer As Folk! All I'm waiting on now is the last two seasons of The Kids In The Hall on DVD! Yay for getting sweet stuff in the mail.

I used my stove for only the second time since I moved in. I made pasta tonight. So, technically, I only used the stoveTOP for the second time, I have yet to actually use the oven itself. But I'm practically wearing out the microwave. Oh, and I did a full load of dishes tonight. At one point, I went out to the kitchen, heard the dishwasher running and just giggled, knowing I no longer have to actually wash them myself.

Ealier today, I heard the extended full 15 minute version of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love". Haven't heard that in a while. That song just never gets old to me.

Teach the world to snuff the fires and the liars...

Near the end of work today, I got a called from Corey. The last time we had talked, he told me of this book he was reading Snuff, and it sounded interesting to me. So when he called today, he told me he was done with it, and asked if I wanted to stop by after work and pick it up. And so I did.

I was the first time I had seen his place, and it was a decent looking place. He gave me the book and we talked, quite a bit about comic books actually. I found out he and Krissy are back together. Which in one way was disappointing, but in another, was a good thing. It was good because they make each other happy, and we all know how I've TRIED to hate her, but she's just so much fun. But I was disappointed cause...well, I don't know, I mean it's not like I have a chance with him, since he's straight and all, but still....it was just a bit disappointing.

But on the best side, when i got there he was wearing his work shirt, which is a turtleneck thing that he hates. He kept pulling at it while we talked. I was in the middle of some fascinating point about how Marvel Comics sucks, or whatever, when he just suddenly took off for his bedroom. He yelled for me to continue, he could hear me, so I did. And he returned carrying a t-shirt. So while I continued talking, he took off his turtleneck, threw it on a chair, fooled around with the t-shirt getting it turned right side out and all, and then put it on.

I don't recall exactly when, but sometime during this I stopped talked and just stared. At that point in time I had no idea what I had been talking about. All I knew was there he was bared to the waist. And what a sight it was to behold. He is freaking HOT! I mean, I already knew he was, but I hadn't seen his chest before. Very nice. I think we both laughed when his shirt was on, and I, somewhat sheepishly, went back to the topic of comic books.

Yeah, he's hot and all, but we have a lot in common, and get along great and I know I've said this before, but I gotta say it again: I could SO fall for him. But...he's straight, and has a girlfriend. So I'll just have to be happy with hanging out with him and being a friend.

I just wish, when I was at his place, I had my camera handy....

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Well, I’m sure you’ll hear (if you care to listen) a lot of spin going on from DC and NYC, and other places, about yesterday’s election. But, I’ve got the final word on it cause, well this is my blog, and what I say is the final word.

There was no large national lesson to be taken from any of these elections. As the late, great Tip O’Neill said, “All politics is local.” And this election proved it. Corzine, in NJ, was an ethics ridden, Goldman Sachs candidate who was fatally flawed. Deeds in VA, was an unknown who spent more time trying to define his opponent based upon a decades old thesis instead of spending time defining Deeds himself.

I did get a chuckle out of the NYC mayor’s race. Even though Bloomberg won, he spent like 100 million dollars of his own money to win by a very narrow margin against an opponent who, even the day before the election, many New Yorkers couldn’t even name. It’s refreshing to see that a landslide in money can’t buy you a landslide at the polls.

If one must draw a large national conclusion from these, it would the fact that Obama campaigned in NJ 5 times for Corzine, and he still lost. But I honestly don’t know if that shows a weakness in Obama, or if he just wasn’t strong enough to overcome the weaknesses already inherent in Corzine.

What I think both governors races DO show is that the Republican base, including mostly the wingnuts, are fired up, and the Democratic base isn’t. And I’d say their not, because I’m not either, for one reason: we expected ‘change’ from Obama. What we’ve seen is watering down of important issues (is health care) to attempt to appease Republicans or Blue Dog Democrats who won’t vote for it anyway. Pass the damn bills that the people who elected you, elected you to pass. And if you don’t, one lesson from yesterday is, we’ll stay home at the polls. Try to accomplish ANYTHING with a Republican House and/or Senate.

Moving on, I was quite disappointed and somewhat surprised by the voters of Maine voting to override a law and re-enforce discrimination against some of its citizens. It’s a shame that gays and lesbians have to beg everyone else for their God given and Constitutionally protected rights, but in the end, as time passes, and the homophobic older generation dies off to be replaced by the more accepting younger generation, gay marriage will be commonplace and not an issue. And I hope it’s in my lifetime.

The NY-23 Congressional race was an interesting one, wasn’t it? The wingnut conservatives basically said, “We’re backing one of our own wingnuts, and if the Republican establishment doesn’t like it, then fuck them!” So in other words, the wingnuts would rather lose than have a Republican representing them who isn’t as wingnutty as they are. This seems a bit self destructive, but a Civil War splitting the Republican Party down the middle, with ‘normal’ Republicans on one side and the wingnuts on the other would be a joy to behold.

And when you hear some Republican crowing about how the NJ and VA governors race portend dire things cause they were all about Obama, just remember this chart, so awesomely put together by the great http://www.electoral-vote.com/. and on display there. (I tried to copy it to the blog, but it wouldn’t take, dammit. You’ll have to go there any look, then come back and read my analysis below.)

What it shows is that in the last thirty years, there have been 8 NJ and VA governor’s elections. And in every single one from VA and in all but two from NJ, the party that had won the presidency the year before, LOST the governors races, regardless of whether is was a Democrat or a Republican in the White House. In that historical context, the VA and NJ outcomes should have been expected and not a surprise at all.

And when someone tells you this foretells extreme danger for Democrats in Congress next year, again check the chart. There is no statistical correlation between who wins the VA and NJ governors races and how their parties do in the next year’s election.

So, as I said, and as the chart makes clear, there were no overwhelming national conclusions to draw from two governor’s races, one large city mayor’s race, a special election in upstate NY, and a referendum in Maine.

Calling all aliens, come rescue me, oho oh...

“V” is premiering tonight, and if you have even the slightest bit of awesome anywhere in your body, you already know that.

And on the way to work this morning, while flipping through the radio stations, I ended up on the right wingnut radio show Mancow In The Morning. He mentioned that he saw the first episode at some comicon earlier in the year. He said it was a great episode. I hope he’s correct.

And then he said, “And best of all, it’s a slam at Obama! See, these aliens come to earth promising hope and change and instead they do the opposite! It’s great!”

And then I literally laughed out loud in my car.

V is obviously a remake of the original V miniseries from the early 80’s. Should the wingnuts be correct and it IS a slam at Obama, one must really wonder at the ingeniousness of the original V’s writers and producers. I mean, somehow, they just knew that 25 years into their future, Obama would be elected promising hope and change, but yet deliver the opposite, and they incorporated that into their miniseries 25 years ago, so that now, today, ABC could revive the franchise and use it to slam Obama! My GOD, they deserve an Emmy, or some kind of honor for being so far sighted and precognitive back in the 80’s!

I mean, who would have thought back then, when I was in middle school and shaking in anticipation for each night’s new episode, that it was actually a political statement against a president a quarter century hence? Sure not me!

Seriously…the lengths that these idiots go to never fail to amaze me. And, even more importantly, watch the episode tonight! I really hope it doesn’t suck.

1a. You just gave yourself a body-shaking orgasm. How long do you have to wait before you can give yourself another body-shaking orgasm? Hmm, well when I was younger, about ninety seconds. But now that I’m over 40….twenty minutes? So while I could have an orgasm 20 minutes laster, if I’ve just had a ‘body-shaking orgasm’ it’s unlikely I’d have another orgasm of that intensity that soon.
1b. You just gave yourself a body-shaking orgasm. What is the longest you can wait until you absolutely have to do it again? As above, ‘body-shaking orgasms’ don’t happen all the much with me, just regular orgasms do. And I’m not at ALL complaining about that. But the longest I’ve gone without an orgasm, since I discovered them at like 11 years old, is about three days. And that’s when I was sick with the flu.
2a. If you are good in this life, what will you come back as in your next life ... if you come back as an animate being? Considering I’ve not really been good in this life, and all the stuff I do in this life, it would be poetic justice if I spent my next life as an impotent celebate monk that took a vow a silence. It wouldn’t be a good life at ALL, but it would be a poetically just one.
2b. ..... if you come back as an inanimate being? Since I’m not really ‘good’ in this life, it would fit if I came back as a tampon. No, that would actually be HELL for me.

He went to Tampa recently to play in some kinda contest, a Grand Prix, he called it? I don't know, at any rate, he ended up coming in third out of a couple hundred players. That was good enough to win him $1500 and get him an invite to the Nationals in San Diego next year. (Who knew Magic The Gathering even HAD Nationals?) And he's rated 28th in North America.

I've never played the game, but I think this is kinda impressive nonetheless. And there's even an article about him online HERE. (he's looking pretty scruffy in the picture cause he doesn't shave alot now, and rest assured I harrassed him about that pretty mercilessly) Again, this might mean more to me if I played the game, but being ranked 28th in ANYTHING in North America seems a bit noteworthy, no?

My mind's grinding like a steel gear, baby...

I may have mentioned some of this before, so bear with me a bit. When Dave S. and I went to NYC a few weekends ago we took the train. While we waited in Harrisburg to leave, Dave S. got on his iPhone and was checking some things out. He showed me one app called Grindr. It's an app where guys can post a photo of themselves and a little bit of information and it shows how far away each guy is from one's iPhone, and if both sides want they can talk to each other. Basically, it's a gay hookup thing.

So anyway, we would look at quite a few of the photos, sighing at the hot ones, laughing at the stupid ones. And by us doing so, Dave S. came up with an idea for another blog: he'd capture the hot ones and the silly ones and put them on the blog and leave some comments with them. Well, he's set it all up. It's at http://funwithgrindr.blogspot.com. Stop by and check it out. It made me laugh. And when you do, tell him Polt sentcha!
