Come join our party, not just anyone will do (Part 13)...

Well whadda know, ain't this a surprise?  I missed another one: former Virginia governor Jim Gilmore has announced he's running for the Republican nomination for president.  If you missed it, don't worry, you're not the only one.  With the media all in a frenzy salivating over what inanity is gonna vomit forth from The Donald's gob, you probably misses this, cause it was little more than a footnote.  And actually, that's all his campaign will be.  If he even makes it to the third primary in South Carolina, I'll be surprised.  But anyway, here we go:

Bernie Sanders: April 30, 2015 - 83 days

August in Virginia, a warm brandy night....

I HATE August.

It's clearly THE worst month of the year.

It is hot.  It is humid.  It is sticky.  It is muggy.   There is not a single recognized holiday to get you a day off work during the entire month.  There is not a single recognized holiday to have you celebrate anything during the entire month.

When I was still in school and college, August meant the end of my vacation and that I was soon going to have to go back.  When I was watching network TV, the month contained nothing but reruns.  The only sport on TV is baseball...blech.

There is NOTHING pleasant, happy or fun about the month of August.  It just simply sucks.  The ONLY good thing about it is that when it's over, the cooler weather of autumn is on the way, and football will soon be filling my weekends.

But until then.....I just wanna go to sleep and wake up when it's over.

Chapter 7, Page 30....

Today, i got to work early again, but man, I was not feeling work.  I wasn't feeling terribly well either, still have the scratchy throat and congestion and headache.  So I wasn't firing on all cylinders, but I still managed to get everything done I needed to get done.  For lunch, I went back to Panera Bread, for the second time this week, just cause I wanted something a little more satisfying than what we were having here.  So I got the chicken Caesar salad and half a ham and Swiss sandwich.

After work, I went to mom's as planned.  I left my car with her and got hers.  I drove it back home here, changed my clothes and then immediately set about taking the old coffee table apart.  I needed an Allen wrench to do it, so I got mine, turned it upside down on the new coffee table and started taking the legs off (and yes, I am, just like you, surprised that not only did I know what an Allen wrench was, but also that I HAD one AND I knew where mine was!)  Once I had the legs off, I put them in a bag, put the screws, along with the Allen wrench, into an old pill bottle, and put everything in the back of mom's car (she had put her back seats down so it would fit, and hence why I needed her car, cause the back seats in mine don't go down).  The whole process took less than twenty minutes.  Yay me.

I turned the TV on and laid on the couch to watch it a bit.  I have no idea what I was watching, I think something about Napoleons defeat at Waterloo, but I not sure, cause I promptly fell asleep into 20 minute nap.  The only reason I woke up was because Mom called.

Now that I was back up, I made a TV dinner for supper. Then I sat on the couch and read some before getting back online.  I was also texting with FDot.  Since he's going on a cross country trip here in a week or two, I got him a journal and sent it to him.  I wrote in journals when I was going to Toronto, detailing everything: not only who with, when and where I had sex, but also mundane things, like the price of gas, how long it took to drive from place to place, places I ate up there, interesting little trivial things I saw.  It really meant nothing at the time, but now when I got back and read them, it brings back memories.  So I sent FDot one so he could do that same.  And we texted about all manner of topics.

eventually, it was time to go to bed.  I took a shower first, as I was feeling a bit...sticky from the humidity.  And then I laid in bed and read until I went to sleep.

Chapter 7, Page 29...

Wednesday, I got to work a bit early actually.  Work itself was okay, I had a meeting and had to get some stuff done beforehand for it, and did.  And afterwards, I had a bunch of resulting paperwork, which I didn't actually wrap up until Thursday.  The rest of the work day was, ya know, just a work day.

After work, I driving home, in mom's car (I dropped mine off to get the oil changed, remember) and my phone beeps, twice.  I see the mechanic has left me two messages.  I dont get service at work, so even though he left them both before 12:30, I didn't actually get them until after 4.  Lovely.  He NEVER calls me with anything, unless it's a problem. A bad problem. WONDERFUL.  I don't bother to call him back, cause I'm like ten minutes away so I just drive.

When I get there, I apologize and explain why i didn't call back.  Long story short, my battery, which was probably the original 7 year old battery was dead.  And it needed replaced.  And when he couldn't reach me, he just went ahead and did it, cause it HAD to be done, he didn't want to have it leave me sit somewhere in the next day or two.  And I actually was fine with it.  I trust him with things like that, I've been taking my cars to him since the early 90s.  But the bill, for everything was like $250 bucks or so.  So Discover Card loves me even more now (after using it for the $650 car trouble a few months back and for the coffee table earlier in the week).

I got home, changed cars with mom, and came home.  I needed to go to the Post Office and get gas, so I did, and while I was out and about, I got some fast food.  I also noticed that now ALL the dashboard lights that aren't supposed to be on, are NOT on.....except for the passenger airbag on.  It's blinking.  *SIGH*  I checked the manual, and it said the bag may or may not deploy properly, take it to a dealer.  And I thought, pfffft, I never have passengers anyway.  It's not gonna make my car blow up.  Fuck it.  When I take it to get the oil changed in the fall, I'll just have him look at it then.

So I got home and ate the fast food.  And while I was putzing around online, I got messaged by a fuckbuddy who wanted to stop by.  And so shortly, some bedtimesexxyfun ensued.  Following this, I was online just a bit more and then went to bed, read and then to sleep.

Chapter 7, Page 28...

Let me just say first off, I HATE this kind of muggy hot weather.  BLECH!

I've been sleeping with the a/c on (well in fact LIVING with the a/c on).  When I woke up Tuesday morning, I had a scratchy throat.  I dont know if it was from the a/c, allergies, or if I'm getting a summer cold.  Over the day, I figured it wasn't the first, because I felt congested and had a slight headache, so it's probably one of the latter two.  Lovely.

Anyway, I got to work without issue.  And work was kinda busy.  I put off a few things until Wednesday, but I still got some stuff done. Gotta prioritize dontcha know?  They were having lasagna and garlic bread for lunch and work, and I wasn't feeling it, nor the carbs it entailed, so instead I went out.  To Panera.  I had the You Pick Two: a chicken Caeser salad (totes healthy) and half a ham and swiss sandwich (not as healthy).  But they certainly were both VERY tasty!

After work, with mom's help, I had two things to accomplish: getting my new coffee table home, and getting my car to the mechanic to he could change my oil Wednesday.  Here was the plan:

Mom would take her car to her brother's house and leave it there while she drove his pickup to her place (this is, by the way, the ONLY thing she could remember.  So she gave up trying to remember the rest of it and just focused on this one thing).  Then, when I got home from work, and changed my clothes, I'd call her.  Then we'd both drive to the mechanic's.  I'd leave my car there, get in the pickup with her, and off we'd go to get the coffee table.  Once we had it, we'd bring it back to my place, get it inside and set up and then we'd take the pickup to fill up the gas tank.  Then back to my uncle's to drop the pickup off and then get mom's car and come home.  And that's what we did.

Well, except for a detour to the Chinese buffet for supper.  Then she dropped me off here and went home.  I hung out and was online for a bit and watched a little tv.  I texted Kris to see if he wanted my old coffee table, which he did.  Now, Thursday night, I have to get the legs off of it, switch cars with mom (cause it'll fit in hers, with the backseat down but not mine at all) and get it loaded into her car.  I'll take it to work, and since Kris lives in the same town as I work in, and to save myself a useless trip back to my town here, after work, I'll drive to his place and unload it.

But I was pretty tired, after not having slept the best the night before.  So I went up to bed before 9PM.  Didn't go to sleep right away, of course.  I read some and was on my phone a bit.  And then I turned out the light and went to sleep.

Come to the table and savor the sight....

Back in 1997, when I moved into my own first apartment, I got a coffee table at Wal-Mart.  It was a put it together yourself kinda deal.  I have no idea how much it cost anymore, but I'm sure it was under $100.

That coffee table has been with me through 12 years at the apartment, and nearly 6 years here at the house.  It's still a good table, although it's a smidge wobbley, and the legs are in constant need of tightening.

I decided it was time to get a new one.

Mom told me about a furniture store going out of business, so we went there, but they didn't have anything I liked, or actually cheap prices.  So we went to Dentler Brother's Furniture, the place I got my sofa.   I found one, but wasn't sure  After I looked at it a bit and thought about it (it's a smidge taller and a smidge less in length than I have now) I just said, "Let's DO it!  I'll take it."  And so I paid for it.  We had to go today to get it, with my uncle's truck.  And we did.  And I remembered to get pictures!

The old one.  Looks pretty good for being 18 years old, eh?

The new one.  The four panels are some kinda stone, and are removable (that made it MUCH easier to carry.  Those panels are freakin heavy!)

And the side by side comparison.

Eighteen years....quite a long time to have a piece of furniture, especially Wal-Mart furniture.  Oh the stories that table could tell!

Anyway, he's going to a good home.  I checked with Kris if he had a coffee table, and if not, did he want one, because I had gotten a new one.  And his response was, "Hell YEAH, I'll take your old one!"  So he'll be one his way there.  I kinda doubt he'll be around for another 18 years, but I'm sure Kris and his housemates will get good use out of him.

Chapter 7, Page 27...

Okay, so this was my day.  I got up about 8-ish I think.  I went out and de-weeded the flower garden (took less than ten minutes).  Got the clippers and cut the tree back to a reasonable height, width and depth.  Went to Rutters for breakfast and coffee.  Ate it while I read the paper.  Was online for a bit.

Showered, dressed, headed to the Post Office to mail a package.  Went to Martins for a few groceries.  Came home and made pasta and meatballs.  Read my book, finishing up the one I was on, and starting a new one.

Mom stopped by and we went to Hagerstown to a furniture store going out of business to look for a coffee table.  Didn't find anything, they were not what I wanted, nor that cheap.  While there I got a phone call from Derick.  I ignored it.  Minutes later, he called back.  This time I answered it.  He said he was at my front door!  I told him I wasn't home and I'd call him once I got home.

Mom and I went to a nearby furniture store down the street from the one we were at.  This second one is the same one I got the sofa from not too long ago.  I found one I liked, but we didn't have any way to get it home at that time.  I paid for the coffee table while mom called her brother to see if we could borrow his truck Tuesday, and he said yes.

We came back to town, stopped at Lowes to get the pads for under the coffee table legs so it could slide across the rug.  We went to Rita's for some gelatis!  YUM! She brought me home.

I texted Derick.  He was still in town.  He had been at my house when his friend had been at the chiropractor up the street.  They were now eating at Montezumas.  He asked if I could take him home if she dropped him off.  I said sure.  I knew what he wanted.

When he got here, it was clear he wanted to play, and who was I to deny him.  The ensuing bedtimesexxyfun was amazing, as it always is with him.  I then drove him back to his house.

I returned here, since I hadn't eaten any real food since the pasta at 1:30, and since it was now about 7, I had a slice of ring bologna, a piece of cheese and a few chips.  And that was it.  Oh and a handful of Wheat Thins.  And then I went to bed and continued reading my new book, and then went to sleep.

Chapter 7, Page 26...

Im not sure exactly when I got up and out of bed, 9:00 am maybe?  I put on some clothes and went to Rutters for breakfast and coffee, and ate it here at home while I read the paper. Then I got online for a bit, and then I did a load of laundry.  I read quite a bit throughout the day as well.

Later in the morning, I got a shower.  And then about 1;00pm, I think, I made pasta and meatballs for lunch.  Then I putzed around here some more, doing mainly reading.  I had something I had to mail, and so, even though it was 95 degrees out, I decided to walk it over.  And did.

It was hot out, but the humidity was nearly gone, and there was a breeze, so it didn't seem so bad.  Mom had called before I left, she wanted me to help her take some things to the basement.  So I made a detour to her place, helped her, and then walked back to The Waynesburger.  Got some food to go and continued on home.

I was so hot and sweaty, when I got home, the first thing I did was take a shower.  Then I came downstairs and ate the food.  Mom showed up at bit later to get the Sunday paper to take home to read.  Other than that, i spent the time reading and online.  I also caught the last half of "Twelve Angry Men" on TV.  Love that movie.  Anyway, after that I went to bed, read and then to sleep.

I watched the three extended versions of the Lord Of The Rings movies, and I read the Hobbit earlier this year.  And I was thinking about how most of the books involved our heroes spending inordinate amounts of time just...walking!  I read the Fellowship of The Ring last year and could barely get through it cause all it was was freaking walking!

And then I found THIS online:

Now I don't know if the comparisons are accurate, but if they are, it's no wonder there was so much walking!  According to this perspective, Bilbo and his troupe walked from Kansas to almost Pennsylvania.  And Frodo and Sam walked from Kansas to almost Jacksonville!  I mean, seriously, I guess it that's the case, I'm not at surprised by all the walking!
