Sleeping on the sofa, when she's lying in her sunday best...

This flu I have is freaky. It started with a dry cough, not too bad on Tuesday. Then Wendesday and Thursday, I had the headache, and body aches and fever, and my throat was sore. Then Friday and Saturday, it was just pretty much a ridiculously sore throat and head full of snot. I hated going to bed cause, even with the humidifier I have in my bedroom, my throat still gets dry and that's what makes it feel like its on fire and I made it so that i could hardly sleep. I woke up this morning, with just a slightly sore throat, and was overjoyed, cause I thought maybe i was coming to the end of it. But NO, today, it's settled into my chest. I'm coughing and moving all KINDS of phlegm and mucus around in my lungs, and while I'm certain it sounds really gross, it's even grosser to experience it in person, I assure you. And I'm still snotting, but by and large, the aches are still gone, and the sore throat is negligible. It's like for a day or two, the flu hits something, and then moves onto something else. Crazy. I just hope it works it way right on out of my body soon!

Today, I did nothing. I got up and 9:30 and posted. Then I ate some breakfast and got some laundry together to take to moms. I got there, and spent most of the day there, from like 10:30 to about 5:30. All I did was read (the newspaper, the book i took along), ate (tenderloin, potatos and chicken strips she made for lunch, some soup and chicken salad sandwich for supper), and slept. She did pretty much the same, and we talk and all, but she heats with a wood stove, and that wood stove heat, coupled with her home cooking, and the new comfy couch all contributed to much sleep for me.

Didn't do much, a lazy day, but again, that's what I need, I think, to help with this bug.

All those stupid people, who can't decide, which book to read...

Found people all over the blogsphere taking this quiz, so I did too.

You're A People's History of the United States!

by Howard Zinn

After years of listening to other peoples' lies, you decided you've
had enough. Now you're out to tell it like it is, with all the gory details and nothing
left out. Instead of respecting leaders, you want to know what the common people have to
offer. But this revolution still has a long way to go, and you're not against making a
little profit while you wait. Honesty is your best policy.

On the radio and video shows...

I had every intention of going to work today. Honestly I did. And then, when I woke up, coughing, hacking, still very ill, I thought maybe I should just stay home and rest. And that's what I did.

I slept in (except for the occasional momentary wake-up for the use of the bathroom, a drink, or to take pills) until about 1:30. After that, I sat and watched some TV, and then watched my two Netflix movies: Show Boy and High Fidelity (both of which were okay, but nothing great).

I've been drinking water, orange juice or hot tea almost constantly. I've had a bowl of chicken noodle soup, even though i wasn't terribly hungry. I was online a bit. I'm going to go to bed here before too much longer, and I WILL go to work tomorrow, even if it's only for a few hours. I do feel a bit better today than I did yesterday, although my throat is raw and on fire and that sucks. Luckily, I'm not coughing too much.

So, yeah, I've survived so far, we'll see how much longer it takes me to beat this. I had a flu shot back in October...PFFFT, fat lotta good that did me, eh? Oh, and a co-worker did tell me this joke yesterday: What's the different between beernuts and deer nuts?

Give up?

Beernuts cost a dollar fifty, and deernut are under a buck. BWAHAHAHA....

Okay, kids, to prove how miserable I am, I took this video of myself, laying in bed. Mind you, this is NOT first thing in the morning, when I'm jsut up and feeling the worst of the day.

Sick boy, in his faded blue jeans, sick boy...

I am sick. I feel like crap. Like crap warmed over. Like a piece of crap floating in a puddle of crap.

Okay, well maybe not all that bad, but I don't feel well. It started Tuesday with an intermittent dry cough. I think I got it from a lady i had training with, and even if I didn't, I'll blame her anyway. And then yesterday, it started full force: I had a headache, and my joints ached, and I was coughing more, and my throat was very sore. Blech.

Today, when i got up, I was still pretty bad, but I soldiered on and went to work. Not that I mind taking off work, God knows that's not true, but I hadn't been to work since Saturday, and I knew the paperwork had piled up. So I went to work. I got caught up on the paperwork, but I wasn't a ball of fire. Didn't do anymore than I had to, and what i did do, I didn't do very swiftly. I had all the symptoms from the day before, but now I had phlegm in my chest to bring up, and was achey in my neck, back, shoulders, knees, wrists. Hell, even my balls were overly sensitive and ached some. And I hsad a slight fever: 99.7 or so. But even so, I left at 2:00 and came home.

I've been taking advil/motrin since Tuesday night. Drinking lots of orange juice and water (I can't believe how many times I had to pee today). I'm taking Mucinex for the chest stuff, and cough drops for the cough. And Nyquil at night. I have no idea who invented Nyquil, but if I met them, I'd give them a big ole hug and kiss! It's fantastic stuff!

Today, when i got home, I fell asleep on the couch for a short time, that was good, what i needed. I have every intention of going in to work tomorrow, but maybe I do want to just stay home and sleep in and rest some more. I'd hate to use the time and let more work pile up, but at the same time, what I need most might be rest.

Oh well, I can see I've babbled enough here now, time to go.

Covenant, we will always grow, our skin will fade transcend...

So last night, when the coverage of the Super Tuesday turned to subjects that were boring (re: the Republican contests), I flipped around through the channels. I stumbled upon The Covenant. I had seen previews of this movie, and it looked stupid, but I figured I might get it on Netflix once, for the eye candy, if nothing else. Seems the main actors are on the high school swimteam...how lucky for us.

I kept switching back and forth, and before I went to bed, I managed to catch the best parts of the movie. See below:

Them boys got them some DAMN fine torsos, don't they? And ya know, the director had them running around shirtless or nearly naked quite a bit. There were a lot of gratuitous hot sweaty chest shots: talking on the phone in bed, shirtless ansd sweaty from a nightmare; watching a fight in the lockerroom, posing shirtless ans sweaty from the steam from the showers; playing fooseball in a tigh white wifebeater, sweating from the playing of fooseball....schweet!

I think the movie would have been better had I muted it, cause thier acting skills were....well, let's just say I don't believe the casting directors chose them for thier acting abilities.

NOT that I'm complaining mind you! Nope, not complaining at all. Waiting for sequel, am I.

Some people can be content, playin' bingo...

Today, I had my last day of training. Yahoo! Oh it was boring, don't get me wrong. But at least they've cut our training back from 5 days a year to just 3. That's a BIG improvement!

But, as every year, the last training of the last day was conducted by one of our bosses named Blair. Oh my sweet LORD he is boring. He blathers on and on and on and on and says nothing! He also taught the Bloodborne Pathogens section this year. I kept track of the moronic things he said, some of which are as follows:

1) dealing with medical disease, it's a good idea to be refreshed.
2) if you're like me, you've always got a ding or something on your hands.
3) doesn't have his Depends on and pees his undies.
4) I'm not gonna put anybody at odds with an analogy.
5) as a workplace benefit, a benefit of employment.
6) I'm only guessing, this is not a factoid that I'm passing on here, just a guess.
7) Rules of hygiene....let's jump into this.
8) That's why we don't put blood in refridgerators.
9) Got bit in the face, took a chunk out of his cherry-red cheek.
10) That's an exaggeration beyond exaggeration for effect.
11) We always focus on the guy with the rumor floating above him.

And this one, I just couldn't believe even he'd utter something to stupid:
Most of our immigrants are from out-of-country.

Well, D'uh! Ya think?

*SIGH*

For the final part that he taught though, I was ready for him. Last night, I thought of a bunch of words he'd use, and stupid little sayings he always said, and I made up 4 "Blair Bingo" sheets. I put the words on a typical bingo-like game sheet. And then 4 of us sat there and played it while he talked. Once of us actually got BINGO, the other three did not. But everyone, even those that didn't play, thought it an outstanding idea. One guy, who doesn't have the training until next week, wants me to make some more up for the people in his class. And I think I'll accomodate them.

The man himself was only listening to himself blather on, and oblivious to everything else, so he had no idea we were playing it. BUt even if he finds out and I get a 'talking to', oh well. I've been there 12 years and my disciplinary file is totally empty, so if they want to put something in it about this, have at it.

2. Do you have a favorite poem and, if so, what is it? Recite it (or a snippet) here, please. I really don't like poetry at all. I did however like the following, "In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decry, where Alf the sacred river ran, through mountains (something something) to man, down to an open sea." Like the reference to Xanadu (loved that movie), and the 'pleasure dome' thing....sounds like a place for debauched sex orgies!
3. What is your greatest regret in life, something that you failed to do that you wish you did? I try not to have regrets, although I do regret telling a mutual friend that a real hot guy friend of mine and I had sex. he asked me not to, I did it anyway. It ended my friendship with the hot guy, and I really did come out the loser there.
4. You are tired and hungry, but it's too late to cook. If any snack food were available to you, what would you choose and why? It really depends on what I'm craving at the time. Could be chips, could be cheetos, could be a brownie, could be some other candy bar, it just depends.
5. What is the oldest item of clothing (not jewelry!) that you wear regularly and what do you love about it? I have a pair of black Totes toasties that keep my feet incredibly warm, and I've had them....hmm, probably about 8 years or so.
Bonus (as in optional):Name a movie or TV show that changed your thinking or behavior. Honestly, I can't think of any TV show or movie that did that. There may be one or two, but I can't think of any, sorry.

This is me, you're not talking to...

Just one observation from when I watching the Super Bowl...and it's not about the game itself.

I was watching it at my friend Duff's. As the game began, Duff and his girlfriend Angie were in the kitchen preparing things. I was in the living room wth Duff's 11 year old twin sons, Angie's 10 year old daughter and 13 (or so) year old niece.

All four of them had something called a DR, I think. Apparently, it could play like Gameboy games, but it could send text messages as well.

And that's what they were doing. One of them would type something, the other three would recieve it and they'd all laugh cause the first insulted one of the other three. Then the insulted party would type something stupid to one of them, and once all four had it, they'd all laugh again.

It caused me to wonder, what has this country come to when four kids can be in a room together, and instead of actually TALK to each other, they just send each other text messages????

And then I had cause to wonder, God, when did I get so old and sound like an old fogey??? But seriously, it all did seem a little surreal, and silly at the same time. but then, eh, whatever. At least they were staying out of trouble and not getting in front of the TV.

POLT Listening to "Hung Up" by Madonna

Every day is a party day when you're hanging with the gays!

Time rips by, neither goose nor the gander fly...

As I said, I was in training to today. We had several different blocks of training, only one of which was even remotely informative and interesting.

On in particular was really bad, becuase of the instructor. He certainly knew his topic, but OH was he arrogant and an very bad teacher. He basically read everything from a PowerPoint presentation, that, by the way, he didn't write, but he got it in Arizona when he was there on a conference on this subject. (Sending morons like him allthe way to Arizona...yeah,it's no wonder we have no money).

So he's reading off the presentation, jsut basically word for word, and he's making mistakes all over the place and I'm convinced he had no idea he made them. Examples:

1) the word was "Hyperthermia - extremely high body temperature". he reads it as "hyPOthermia" which is actually the total opposite.

2) the word "Hypoglycemic" was on the screen, which he pronounced as "hypogly-sick", missing one syllable entirely.

3) the phrase was "have them sit on thier side", meaning have the person sit on their side, not lay on thier stomach. But he read it as "have someone sit on thier side", meaning to have someone else sit beside them.

4) but the best of the day was when the screen read "delusions of grandeur" and he pronounced it "delusions of gander". I did actually have to chuckle out loud at that, which prompted the co-worker sitting next to me to look at me and laugh, cause she too knew what he said. But on the upside, we had a running joke for the day: You're crazy! Are you having delusions of ganders? Are you hallucinating ducks and other waterfowl?

He said these things, and kept going without a pause. Either he didn't want to acknowledge his mistakes (possible) or he just didn't know that he had made them....which is probably more likely.

And it wasn't just the mispronounciations. As I said, he just read from the screen. Like WE couldn't do that for ourselves. And then, when he had handed out the 10 question test, #8 asked us for "4 behavioral characteristics" and #9 asked us for "2 behavioral cues". As we went over the test, the answers he read out for #8 were PHYSICAL characateristics. We tried to stop him and explain the problem. His only interest was in getting through it and getting out of there, so he basically ignored us.

And to think, that particular individual, due to his position, is making close to, if not more than, double what I am. And yet he does all this. And again, I say, it's not wonder we don't ever have money for stuff when we're wasting it on conventions and salaries for jokers like him.

Giants can be good, you decide what's right, you decide...

Wow, the Giants won. I read a headline "The Giants shock the Patriots...and the WORLD!" and i whole-heartedly agree. I thought they had no shot whatsoever. I thought the game would be over by the end of the 1st quarter and the Patriots would end up with more than 45 points.

Who knew?

It was the third week of the regular season, and I saw online the Giants had won the game they played that week, but they were still 1-2. And I vividly remember, sitting right where I am now, and thinking, "Well, Dallas won't have to worry about the Giants this year. At 1-2, they're done, they're out of it. Now we just have to worry about Philly and the 'Skins." Man, could I have been any more wrong?

And last year this time, who could imagine that the Manning brother in the Super Bowl would be ELi and not Peyton...and that he'd WIN no less.

Well, many many congrats to Eli, Coach Coughlin, and the whole organization. Beating the otherwise undefeated Patriots might not make you one of the best teams ever, but it certainly has to rank you up there with the greatest Super Bowl upsets in history.

Big freakin deal.

Do endorsements really matter? Is there anyone out there saying to themselves "Gee, I really wasn't sure who to vote for, Clinton, Obama, McCain, Romney, they all seem okay, but since Ted Kennedy's all for Obama, well, he's got MY vote?"

I've known since last summer that my preferences were Edwards, Obama, Clinton, and Biden, in that order. And no endorsement is going to change that. Of course, I AM a polticial junkie, so i guess that's not surprising.

But I just can't imagine that any voter would cast thier vote based on who Senator Kennedy, or Governor Schwarznegger, or the NY Times, or the Steelworkers Union are backing. I can understand a relative or a friend perhaps being albe to sway a voter in a certain direction by speaking with that voter about the isseus. I can see a specific candidate turning off a voter, or conversely, totally energizing them by a speech, or a position the candidate takes, or what have you. But I really don't understand the importance of an endorsement.

Frankly, if you're only going to vote for someone because someone ELSE is supporting them, should you be voting at all?
