All of my excuses turn to lies...

From his interview with Diane Sawyer:

[Mel gibson] said his words may have come from resentment following criticism he received before the release of "The Passion of the Christ."
"Now even before anyone saw a frame of film, for an entire year, I was subjected to a pretty brutal sort of public beating," he said. "And during the course of that, I think I probably had my rights violated in many different ways as an American, as an artist, as a Christian, just as a human being."

Oh I see now. The whole reason he was out drinking and driving and making anti-Semitic remarks was because peopel criticized his last movie. The poor guy was beaten in public, metaphorically speaking of course. Yes, it all makes sense now, poor Mel is the victim in all this!

Oh puh-LEEZE! The man is a closed minded anti-Semitic, homophobic, religious nut who just happened to have enough money lying around to make THE most violent movie produced in a long time (this from Roger Ebert, who gave the passion a thumbs up, by the way).

What amazes me about all this is that depsite what he may have said or what he may have meant the man was drunk and driving! Apprently so drunk, he didn't know what he was saying. And the Far Right is excusing him. Bill O'Reilly and others on Faux News have been sympathetic to him, saying its not right how he's been treated in the "mainstream media" (which to them means anyone saying anything even slightly contrary to what they're saying themselves). I wonder how much excusing they would be doing if instead of being stopped by the cops, he had slammed his car into a mini-van and killed the mother and kids inside?

Oh but no, in typical Republican conservative style, we don't blame the guy who did something wrong (since he's one of us afterall), no we blame those who are pointing out he's at fault in the first place. And majke a victim out of the offender.

They have no shame whatsoever.

Everyone knows that alcohol brings out the truth and deep hidden feelings. Mel is in big trouble. I say he go back to Australia for a year or so then return (hopefully) a changed man. His Alcoholism is a sickness but his words show his true feelings. He needs to rid himself of both. Good Luck Mel may you learn from your mistakes and be granted a new beginning.
