Travel notes, Part 1

So, you may have heard somewhere I went on vacation. What did I do on said vacation? Funny you should ask, I was just gonna mention that (and since I've forgotten what I've posted and what I haven't, I might be repeating myself here). This is apt to be a bit dry and clinical, as I'm just reciting from memory, and I apologize for that, but I want to get events down before I forget them. This can augment my journal, that I'm having trouble keeping up with. And to check out our quotes from the trips click HERE.

Thursday, April 23rd:Michelle and I drove to Bradford Pa. Made good time, only a bit over 5 hours. Hit all the regular potty break/refill water stops along the way. In Bradford, at the hotel, I ran Miss Cleo up over the curb at one point, but she survived unscathed. We ate at Beefeaters (which I would highly recommend should you ever find yourself stuck in Bradford). I had the delicious steak, she had...shrimp I think. Food was outstanding. Then we walked around Bradford about about 45 minutes. It's a quirky town, the way it's laid out and with its architecture, and this was the first time I actually walked around town checking it out. We returned to the hotel and hung out there until going to sleep.

Friday, April 24th: We ate at the European Pastry Shop. I had two eggs, two sausages, two pieces of bread, hash browns and a danish for $5.59, a great deal. She has some kind of spinach quiche. We left Bradford for Toronto about 10:05 am. Reached Buffalo NY about an hour and a half later, crossed the border (where I stammered like an idiot when the officer asked how we knew each other if we were from different states. I get nervous at border crossing, don't judge me). We reached Toronto about 2:45 due to come traffic.

After checking into the hotel (only on sixth floor, didn't have great view out the window), walked down Yonge street to change our US dollars to Canadian. Rate was like 1.19, it sucked. Walked then, around Yonge street, up to Wesselly, across to Church, and down Church Street. pointed out all the landmarks in teh gayborhood to her. Returned to the hotel.

Unpacked a bit, and then I went out to check out the scene. Was quite successful in the checking. After returning to the hotel and a shower, we went to Elephant & Castle to eat. I had fish and chips, she had some kind of spinach something-or-other....freaky vegetarians. And we were shocked to learn they didn't serve LaBatt's Blue.

It was there we decided to see about staying another day. Was just kind of an offhand statement, but then we thought about it and decided it was a good idea to try to stay. My buddy Ed was also supposed to stop by, but we were longer in the restuarant than we thought we'd be, and we were both tired, so I called him and asked if we could get together another evening. He was cool with it all. After eating, Michelle and I walked a bit of Yonge Street, bought postcards, then returned to the hotel and hung out there until we went to sleep about midnight.

Saturday, April 25th: Tam was to arrive at hotel at noon. We wanted to get up and get a good breakfast before she got there, but instead of 8:00 as planned, we kept changing the alarm and didn't get up until 10:00. Showered and dressed and went to the Second Cup in the same building as the hotel. Each ate a breakfast sandwich, I had hot chocolate, she had coffee. She read the newspaper, I updated my journal. Mailed postcards. Went back to room to wait for Tam.

After getting through traffic, construction, and three keycards, Tam was at our door. And it was just like we were old friends, not people who had met for the first time. We talked a bit and then went to Zelda's for lunch. It was a warm outside, and the place was packed, but we got table outside on the patio. With the sun beating down. And not shade. And that's when I got my first sunburn. It was pretty bad, but surprisingly, didn't hurt too much.

Our waiter was cute in his cowboy hat, light beard, and short shorts, but the service wasn't terribly fast. They might have not been expecting the crowds, I don't know. We talked about nearly every subject under the sun: Tam's job; my job; Tam's daughter's college plans; another waiter's tight leather shorts; meeting other Puntubugang members; gossiped about other Puntabugang members; temperatures; Metric vs normal measurements; Poland and Prague; the food; our plans for that night and the next day; and many other topics I just can't think of right now.

Following the meal, we visited the World's Biggerst Bookstore, and the Eaton Centre. Tam and I spent our time working on a project for the Puntabugang which will appear in an upcoming post, so keep checking back. Upon leaving the Eaton Centre, we realized it was raining, which sucked as we had no umbrellas. But not letting a little water deter us...we walked back to the hotel. Going to our respective rooms to dry off and rest a bit, we met later in the evening.

This time, we took the subway down to Front Street and ate at East Side Mario's. He less than stellar service there as well, although the food was great and the conversation even better. Got a text from A Local Celebrity, Mr. David ParisPeking, saying he and Ghostie wanted an up to date tally. Tam and Michelle said I should tell him I had had sex with a woman. I texted back that I had 'taken one for the other team', and laughed the entire time doing so. They texted back asking if it was a woman. My reply "I'm in between someoneS right now, will talk later." Their respone: "Ewww", which is just what I thought it would be, and we all laughed.

Following the meal, we walked back to the hotel, stopping again at the Eaton Centre to work some more on that project. And again, when we left, it was raining a bit, but not much. returning to the hotel, I told them I was going out. Tam suggested Michelle come to her room for a movie, but Michelle said she's just go and read. And there we split up. But going up the elevator to our room, I got another text. I thought it was another from ALCMDPP and Ghostie, but turns out it was from Corey. SO I called him once i got to the room, and we talked for maybe 15, 20 minutes. He just wanted to know how the trip was going and if I was having a good time and such.

Then I, as stated, went to check out the scene. And while I was suprised at the awesomeness of what I encountered, I was a bit disappointed in the ulimate outcome. And as a lady, I'll be no more specific than that. Still, I had a great time, naturally.

I returned to the hotel about midnight, I think, and went to bed. We had a busy day ahead of us Sunday.

And that's it for this post. I'll have more later. Again, I apologize for the dryness of it all, but I'm just trying to get everything recorded for posterity.

Sounds like a great trip. I haven't had a real vacation in a few years. Luckily I have the time now.
I get nervous at customs too. On the way back from the Bahamas once, when asked if I had anything to declare, I thought "do I have to declare the soap I stole from the hotel?"

Hey, it was free.

Hehehe, if it was free, was it really stolen? :)

HUGS...
