One more installment in the One Week Ago series...
Sunday morning, Freddie and I got up a bit later than we had planned. We didn't actually have time to eat the breakfast stuff that we had bought the night before. Instead we went through the drive through at Burger King and then proceeded on our way to the Metro. After parking the car, Freddie got the lotion out and smeared some on her arms. But it smelled horrible. His direct statement was, Ew, I smell like a bad car air freshener!" And worst of all...he did. I told him we got it at the Dollar Store, so you get what you pay for. He didn't put anymore on, and I didn't put ANY on.
We got on the train, and this family of a dad, mom, two boys and a girl got on and sat near us. the kids ranged in age from I'd guess 8 to about 4 or so. But they were VERY well behaved. And simply adorable too. Mom handed them all small maps of the Metro and the kids looked them over. She said they'd get to Metro center and then switch to either the Blue or the Orange line, and the youngest kid piped up and said,"ORANGE, please!" So cute. he's also the one who saw the photo of the Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial on the outside of the map, and thought he was doing his laundry!
Anyhow, we got off the Metro and went to the zoo. Below, I've got several photos from there. After this, we planned on going to DuPont Circle, the gay mecca of DC. I suggested we walk there, as it was only 11 blocks or so and was a beautiful day. Freddie was a bit resistant, not wanting to walk a lot, but, bless him, he went along with it. And it was a very pleasant walk. It was a shorter walk than I had expected.
We got to DuPont and went into the the Lambda Rising Bookstore to peruse the books and stuff they had there. After this, we decided to get something to eat, so we went to DuPont's venerated restaurant Annie's Steakhouse. We both got these huge greasy burgers to eat that were delicious. Artery-clogging, but delicious nonetheless.
During the meal, I pursuaded Freddie to walk to Georgetown with me. There was a comic book store there on Wisconsin Ave that Phoenix and I had stumbled on about two years ago, and I wanted to go there again. He wasn't really into cause of the walking involved, but, God bless him, he agreed and off we went. It was warmer with the sun beating down, so I had to take my sweatshirt off and carry it, but Freddie kept his on. On the way there we stopped into two stores Urban Outfitters and Commander Salamander. I was somwhat disappointed in Commander Salamander, as it used to be, when i was college, very cutting edge, very punk-ish, very...out there. And while it's now still more outthere than regular stores, it's much more commerical. Oh well, times change.
Anyway, we proceeded up Wisconsin, where I found the comic book store's store....except now it was a toy store. For little kids. Was I disappointed. I think Freddie was pretty pissed, but again, he kept his composure and we walked back to DuPont to catch the Metro home. And since neiter of us had used sunscreen, we both got burnt again. Freddie even got burnt on the arm he put it on, so not only did he smell badly, but he got sunburnt there as well.
We returned home and I hung out the rest of the night. We ate for supper the stuff we had gotten for breakfast the night before. We watched several episodes of Queer As Folk. Freddie's fallen in love with it. I can't wait to watch the rest of the episodes with him. It was after midnight when we decided it was time to go to bed. And so...we did.
And now, the photos.
Freddie, waiting for us to get on the Metro.
This is a sloth bear, one of thier new exhibits at the zoo.
One of the panda bears.
An elephant.
Some red parrot bird inside the bird exhibit.
this is some exhibit connected to the bird one. It's open but for very small mesh screens, and it lets birds fly around and stuff, and you can walk around in there with them.
This is inside the exhibit, the main support pillar.
This is some bird similar to an ostrich or emu, I think. the only reason I took the photo is cause he's got like a rainbow coloring around his head.
A bunch of stupid foo-foo flamingos. But I had to take a photo, cause what's more gay at a zoo than flamingos?
And this is Freddie crossing this high long bridge on Connecticut Avenue on the way to DuPont. he was still smiling at this point, and no sunburned.
This is us in the DuPont Circle area, on the way to the restaurant. Freddie's doing some flaming, FABulous, jazz hands kind of move. he's so cute. So gay, but so cute too.
On the way to Georgetown we went by this basketball court where these two shirtless hunks were playing. The white guy on the right had the abs and pecs of a porn star, or underwear model. That's why I HAD to get this photo, even if you can't see them very well, trust me, they were the chest and torso of a god!
This is why I love Georgetown. I mean, even thier grafitti is polite and progressive. Gotta love it.
And that, kids, is all the photos I have. I had an incredible time last Sunday, and I believe, despite all the walking, Freddie did too.
