John McCain’s campaign on Wednesday angrily called for an end to questions about its review of Sarah Palin’s background, deriding a “faux media scandal designed to destroy the first female Republican nominee” for vice president.
“This nonsense is over,” declared senior campaign adviser Steve Schmidt in a written statement.

Well I'm glad to see the McCain campaign has decided this...although it's about 15 years too late. Does anyone else remember this 'joke' from the mid-90's?

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?Because her father is Janet Reno."

Yep, that little ditty came from the ole maverick himself, John Sydney McCain. I wonder what 'candidate' McCain would have to say to Senator McCain, circa 1995. Probably nothing more than a hearty laugh, actually, since the joke was about a daughter of the Clintons and not the daughter of his running mate. That's makes all the differenece, don'tcha know?
