I don't wanna go to school, yes it's true...

Today, in many districts around here, it was the first day of school.

WTF?

Wary of appearing as one of those grumpy old people who always tell you so, I gotta say this: That's stupid.

When I went to school, seniors graduated the second weekend in June and had the week prior off.  Graduation was also the final day of school for everyone else.  And then summer vacation began and ran all June, July and August.

We started back to school the Wednesday AFTER Labor Day, and week before, the last week of August was always when the Waynesboro Carnival was held. It was like a final hurrah before heading back into the classroom. Or course, the parking lot in town where they ALWAYS had the carnival was 'refurbished' a few years ago, and now they won't let the carnival be held there (even though now every parks there anyway), so the Waynesboro Carnival is held about 5 miles out of town at the Quincy fairgrounds.  Idiot Waynesboro council.  But I digress...

What is this shit about this kids going back to school in the middle of freakin August????  Possibly it's because I think the local school district now has a 'spring break' for a week in March...stupid.  But that would only add a week, that still leaves another whole week of days to explain.

I guess there's no explanation.  It's just stupidity, pure and simple.  Kinda like the Waynesboro Carnival not being held IN Waynesboro.  But whatever, sometimes 'progress' is stupid.
