NBC News/Wall Street Journal has released the results of a new poll. The poll was overseen by a Democratic pollster and a Republican pollster. And it was taken from June 6-9, right after Hillary's concession speech.
We all remember hearing (or at least I do) about all these various groups that Obama's gonna have problems with: women, Hispanics, blue collar workers, etc.
The poll shows these results:
Overall in the General Election:
Obama 47% - McCain 41%
Independent voters: Obama 41%- McCain 36%
Blue Collar voters: Obama 47% - McCain 42%
Catholic voters: Obama 47% - McCain 40%
Women voters: Obama 52% - McCain 33%
Hispanic voters: Obama 62% - McCain 28%
Now granted, it's only June. Many things can change in the span of 5 months. Think back to the beginning of the year...I was convinced it was going to be a Hillary - Guiliani race. Um, Rudy who?
What the results show is that, Obama isn't losing these groups as it was thought he would. That's not to say he won't or can't lose them. That's not to say McCain can't pick some of these off. And most of them are within 10 points, so that's a possibility.
But the fact that Obama's ahead in these important groups says a lot, I think, about his chances in the fall. Or at least it makes it interesting for now.

I was watching this analysis on Real News on YouTube. Real News is quite interesting, they actually dig in to the issues.

Anyhow the guy doing the weakness analysis said all the Dems need is a picture or video of McCain stumbling and they'll have the race.
Think about it, when Reagan ran he was only a bit younger than McCain yet he appeared robust. McCain on the other hand comes off as a crotchety old geezer.
I was watching CNN tonight while getting my mani-pedi and analyst Jeffrey Toobin was remarking on CNN's poll of polls (aggregating results from several polls) which showed Obama ahead of McCain 48% to 43%. Toobin said "These results are very telling. Well, you know that history shows that the leader in the polls in June wins in November every time. Except, you know, when they don't."
P.S. I know you've bemoaned the state of your feet in the past. There was an African-American gentleman getting a pedicure in the chair next to me tonight. He was at least 65, probably over 70. He told me that he's been getting pedicures for at least 20 years now. His size 13s looked wonderful, before the Asian dude even started on them. This guy's feet were just incredible. If you take care of your feet, they'll take care of you. Think about it. (Plus as a diabetic it's good to pamper your feet). All the nail shops are staffed by Asian folks - just find one with cute guys!)
