We had a local radio station who used be the awesomest station in the area, playing cuttin edge alternative and progressive rock. Then, about 6 or 7 years ago, they switched formats to the Top 40/Pop Rock kinda stuff. Not anywhere near as good, sometimes a bit irritating, but okay to listen to occasionally.
In the last month, the format changed yet again. This time to talk radio. And not just ANY talk radio, but Far Right, Conservative Christian, Religious Republican wingnut type of talk radio. It’s got Mancows, you Glenn Becks, your Limbaughs, your Laura Ingrams, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
I’ve listened to it occasionally, but I can’t listen for long. They are so angry. I’m amazed they don’t punch a hole in the electronic boards in front of them. They’re just so very angry. And they’re arrogant. And snarky, and self-righteous. But what’s worse than all of that, is that they are so frequently wrong.
I found out today that not only did Hillary Clinton pay a huge sum of money to Rev. Wright to go off like he did and further embarrass Obama, but on a different talk show, I also learned that Obama’s campaign itself has paid the Rev. Wright a huge sum of money to go off like he did and appear so much worse than he did before, just so that it would be eaesier for Obama to sever ties with him. Wow, Rev Wright must be rolling in the dough from all these payoffs. Which must the case because three separate shows, and the Bill O’ral-ly show on the Faux News network have ALL been spending a lot of time on this huge mansion the Rev Wright is building in some white neighborhood.
I’m left to wonder, other than Far Right wingnut commentators and their slack jacked local yokel listeners, who the hell cares about Rev. Wright’s home? It has absolutely zero to do with the election. And with Obama now severing ties with him, Rev. Wright himself has nothing to do with the election. Unless certain wingnut radio commentators attempt to MAKE it an issue.
And why shouldn’t they? I mean, we ALL know how much more important Rev. Wright home is than petty piddling things like the Iraq war, health insurance, the housing crisis, gas prices, the economy tanking, obscene tax cuts for the wealthy, and our criminally huge budget deficit.
I'm reminded of a quote one of my college professors said. I don't recall if HE said it, or if he was quoting, but it went something like this: "If you can't beat them on the issues, slander their character. Either way might allow you to beat them, but only one way allows you to win."
And I'm reminded of this quote everytime I listen to this station.
