Saw some more movies this week, both were disappointing.
Underworld Evolution was just a mess. Not to put too fine a point on it, but she's a VAMPIRE, they don't HAVE sex. Nor do they have a reason to breathe, so all those cool effects of her exhaling in the cold after a fight...pointless. Nor should a vampire have a need for an automatic firearm, especially when she sees it does very little against her opponents. Oh the film was just horrid, form beginning to end. I actually laughed in places...and the film is NOT a comedy. Do NOT waste your time even bothering with this one. (Oh, well Scott Speedman running around without a shirt, and wet, and hair hanging into his eyes, well, yes, THAT was enjoyable, but really not at all worth the time.)
Thumbsucker was a book I had read a few years back. And the cast was certainly impressive: Tilda Swinson, Vincent D'onofrio, Vince Vaughn, Benjamin Bratt, Keanu Reeves. And the kid playing Justin, Lou Pucci is just aDORable, with a great hairthing going (see Below).
But really, the movie as a whole never clicked for me. It just....was strange. And not in a Napoleon-Dynamite, Welcome-To-The-Dollhouse strange. It didn't work for me. I would not recommend it either.
Maybe the next batch of films I see will be a bit more interesting.
POLT = listening to "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk" by Rufus Wainwright
There were many beautiful boys, their chins still hairless, their dark eyes wanton and lustful, savory as apricots plucked in the dew. This, his palace, was a palace of pleasure. - Sandman #50
