Me and Massive tone combine like united nations...

The whole Bolton recess appointment, much to my surprise, doesnt have me very worked up. These are the sneaky, backroom type of dealings that I've come to expect from our illustrious administration. Its typical, when they dont get their way, like whiney children, they find some way around the proper procedures. This should upset me more, but frankly, when I've seen them do this kind of snarky crap, its just no big deal to me now. All Bushie would have had to do was appoint someone who hadnt already said the UN shouldn't exist. That's like putting an avowed athiest in charge of church policy. Or a KKK member in charge of affirmative action. OR perhaps, all the Bushies would have had to do was release the documents Congress wanted released to them. Oh but no, they've got to play all Secret Squirrel and hodl stuff back. Its just disgraceful.

GlobalYokel echoed my suspicions better than I could when he posted this elsewhere:

The Bush administration was between a rock and a hard place; they had to choose between backing off and replacing Bolton with another nominee, or coughing up the documents that the Senate wanted. Those documents might contain material that is relevant in the Plame investigation, so BushCo Inc. chose their only option, which was to usher Bolton in through the back door. And, the recess appointment has the added benefit of feeding some red meat to the wingnut base, which apparently believes that a loose cannon such as Bolton is what a real man looks like

Couldn't have said it better myself. As an unconfirmed Ambassador, I'm sure the UN delegates with be diplomatically respectful, but really, how much power is this guy gonna actually be able to wield, since he's such a joke? Whatever...in three years and three months, we can get an actual diplomat in there, along with maybe an actual president in the White House.

POLT

Strong mind, strong body...strive for at least one of them.
