Captain Marvel
(aka Photon, aka Pulsar, aka Spectrum)
Marvel Comic's Captain Marvel (Photon/Pulsar/Spectrum) first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 in 1982. Monica Rambeau was a member of the New Orleans harbor patrol and in trying to stop the theft of a weapon, she was exposed to extra-dimensional energy, which gave her her powers. She became a member of the Avengers and was there for a considerable amount of time, rising to eventually being the team leader. She was the first black female member of the Avengers. She changed her name a few times over the years, and now goes by Spectrum.
She has the ability to transform herself into any energy on the electromagnetic spectrum. She can fly and project the electromagnetic energy even while in her human, non-energy form.
