Obsidian first appeared in All-Star Squadron #25 in September 1983, Todd Rice is the son of the World War II era hero Green Lantern (Alan Scott). Todd and twin sister (who grew up to be the heroine Jade) were given up for adoption at birth by their mother, who left their father upon discovering she was pregnant. Todd grew up not knowing either his sister or parents. The did eventually reunite. Todd joined Infinity Inc, with Jade his Twin and was a long time member. After the team disbanded he had a shortlived membership in the Justice League before joining a reformed Justice Society. Following this, and a bout with temporary insanity and being a short term super villain, Obsidian retired from heroics. He met and is still, dating an assistant District Attorney named Damon Matthews. He has shadow based super powers.
