DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling Friday finding that the state's same-sex marriage ban violates the constitutional rights of gay and lesbian couples, making Iowa the third state where gay marriage is legal.
In its decision, the court upheld a 2007 district court judge's ruling that the law violates the state constitution. It strikes the language from Iowa code limiting marriage to only between a man a woman.
"The court reaffirmed that a statute inconsistent with the Iowa constitution must be declared void even though it may be supported by strong and deep-seated traditional beliefs and popular opinion," said a summary of the ruling issued by the court.

So we've got Massachusetts and Connecticut offering gay marriage, Vermont, New Hampshire, and New Jersey with civil unions, and we had gay marriage temporarily in Califonia (but of course THAT battle's not done yet). We've got New England and most of the West Coast with us. How refreshing to see a state in the heartland come to our side. And in a unanimous verdict as well.

Oh, the times, they ARE a-changin'! How exciting it will be to watch more and more states stop this unConstitutional discrimination.

Mojo that its the first of many and it doesn't get overturned. I can't imagine those against gay marriage are going to quickly go back to their caves on this one.
