I got a 1966 cherry red, mustang Ford...

(Please allow me to explain that Johnnie sent this out Tuesday, however, he sent it to the wrong address. So, having discovered this, and re-sent it to me, I'm posting it now, and saving him the hassle of being soundly verbally thrashed by my razor-sharp wit for missing another column. Carry on...)

Testicular Tuesdays With Johnnie

Well, here it is Tuesday night and I still can't think up a good ball related story, so this week I'm going to stray off the genital-based track and talk about something else that caught my eye. I was reading CNN tonight and noticed an amusing story. Apparently Ford has pulled all its advertisements from gay magazines to stop a boycott from the American Family Association. It's a pretty conservative group that is very concerned about "family values" aka gay-hating. This made me wonder how such a boycott came about. I couldn't help but picture a meeting of AFA radicals sitting around with one guy saying "has anything new come to our attention?" At which point an angry white guy stands and and says "I'm sick and tired of seeing these Ford advertisements everytime I read my subscription to The Advocate!" To which another frustrated white guy replies "Yeah! It's in all my gay porn magazines too!" So they decide to boycott until they don't have to look at trucks in their gay magazines anymore. Ford did hold strong in not pulling the Volvo adds, though. As we all know, nothing says "queer" like a Volvo, so the AFA shouldn't mind seeing them in their magazine subscriptions. In response to the pulled ads, now gay rights groups are up in arms. They are demanding access to Ford advertisements in their magazines at once! If it were not for these ads, how would gays ever know about this little-known "Ford" company?

In the end I don't think it really matters. However interests groups try to paint the pictures, I'll still see it only one way. Ford doesn't give a rats ass about who you do or do not sleep with. They don't care what your political view points are. They just want to sell you a damn truck. It's a profit based organization, they're just going to advertise in whatever way they think will make them the most profit. They didn't advertise because they felt like extending a friendly hand to gays and lesbians, they advertised because they wanted their money. They didn't stop advertising because they don't feel compassion for gays and lesbians or because they have political bias, they stopped because they wanted the conservatives to keep buying trucks. These gay rights groups shouldn't be attacking Ford, they should be asking the AFA "how the hell did you know they were advertising in our magazines?" It's like the amish getting pissed off because you made fun of them on tv.

POLT = listening to "Swallowed" by Bush

If God had wanted us to vote, he'd have given us candidates.
