I realized something interesting, at least to me, a few days ago. This is only the second election, since 1952, 56 years, where there is NOT a Nixon, Dole, or Bush on the Republican ticket for president.
1952 - Richard Nixon was VP candidate
1956 - Richard Nixon was VP candidate
1960 - Richard Nixon ran for President.
1964 - Goldwater-Miller ticket
1968 - Richard Nixon ran for President.
1972 - Richard Nixon ran for President.
1976 - Bob Dole was VP candidate.
1980 - George HW Bush was VP candidate
1984 - George HW Bush was VP candidate
1988 - George HW Bush ran for President
1992 - George HW Bush ran for President
1996 - Bob Dole ran for President
2000 - George W Bush ran for President
2004 - George W Bush ran for President.
2008 - McCain-Palin ticket
Just twice, two times only, in the last 56 years have Republicans had a non-legacy candidate on thier ticket. And really, look at the names: Nixon, Bush 1, Bush 2....yeah, that company I'd really want to be in. Oh, and the first non-legacy ticket was headed by Goldwater, a senator from Arizona, and he lost in a landslide. Something, isn't it, how that so strangely echos the only OTHER non-legacy ticket?
